Anko Mitarashi (みたらしアンコ, Mitarashi Anko) is a tokubetsu jōnin who sometimes teaches at Konohagakure's Academy. After having her cursed mark absorbed by Cal and broadening her horizon's, she finds herself on a steady path to becoming a well respected and powerful kunoichi.
Background[]
When she was a genin, Anko was on a team led by Orochimaru. Their team took part in the Chūnin Exams; during the second round, they confronted a team consisting of Hayate Gekkō, Ibiki Morino, and Tokara. Orochimaru took a strong interest in Anko, teaching her several of his signature jutsu and, in the anime, what he'd learned about immortality. Orochimaru eventually used Anko as a test subject for his Cursed Seal of Heaven. Of the ten subjects, Anko was the only survivor.
At some point, Anko was appointed as Calel Mazoku's instructor, with him being deemed a special case and having no other graduating genin work alongside, the Hokage determined Anki would be a good match. To test him, Anko simply instruct him to try and catch her. He showcases impressive speed and chases her around the village but isn't able to quite catch up due to her advanced use of wall running, chakra control and stealth. Eventually, Anko decides to envoke a "friendly" sparring session. She is disturbed to witness his physical capabilities are much higher than hers, in close combat, she is hard-pressed to even hold her own. Electing to use weapon's and attack from a distance, Anko is once again shocked to see Cal demonstrate freakish physical power when he rips a tree from the ground and throws it at her. Though she is easily able to see and dodge a tree, Cal swiftly follows up and closes the distance. Anko puts her all into avoiding him and feeling a sense of danger, without thinking about it, instinctively uses a paralyzing-tipped kunai to cut and subdue him. As Anko begins to worry about accidentally injuring her student (and receiving a verbal lashing from the Hoakge) Cal is surprised that he let his guard down but begins to move forward to continue attacking when his legs give out and he starts to succumb to the effects of the paralysis.
The two are regularly at odds, with Anko being infuriated with being forced to tutor someone and Cal being irate with having such an irresponsible person as a mentor. Anko is consistently surprised by how advanced Cal seems to be for a genin until she learns from him that he only started training to become a shinobi after he turned seventeen, with him being eighteen at present. Although she is amazed that he's made so much progress in such a short time, she downplays this because she doesn't want him to become overly confident.
Anko schedules a joint training session between Cal and Asuma's Team. Asuma admits her student is impressive but he thinks she's being unreasonable having Cal fight a 3 v 1. After witnessing his Genin team swiftly subdued,
Personality[]
Anko is a confident, brash, sarcastic, hot-tempered, and competitive individual with something of a nihilistic outlook on life. Generally speaking, Anko is undiplomatic, believing in the use of brute force and coercion to get her way. She is also capable of being quite humorous and witty, and she can be quite talkative when she isn't aggravated or angry. She has been noted on numerous occasions to be somewhat similar to Naruto Uzumaki, both being loud, stubborn, and prone to acting without thinking. When sufficiently motivated, Anko is capable of being highly determined and tenacious, willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants. Her desire to grow stronger remains very apparent as she matures, being prepared to undergo harsh training, learn from multiple different people and keep an open mind.
Growing up as an orphan and then being mentored and then "used" by someone as morally apprehensible as Orochimaru has left Anko with notable emotional and psychological scars that continue to follow her into her adult years. She has an aversion to the empathy of others or others trying to relate to her. On some level, perhaps subconsciously, she comes to resent Sasuke Uchiha, who Orochimaru becomes highly fixated upon using as his next body.
Anko takes great pride in her looks and sexuality, as shown in her outfit, which reveals more skin than the average kunoichi. She has shown some sexual or romantic interest towards other female characters; per example, when feeling emboldened, explicit and openly flirting with Fū (upon meeting her for the first time), talking about romance and love in relation to women, or directly ogling women, even her close friend, Kurenai Yūhi.

Anko is a slightly tan-skinned woman of moderate height in her mid to late twenties with a slender frame and medium bust. She has unique, light brown, pupil-less eyes, and her hair - black with a blue tint in the manga and violet in the anime - is styled in a short, spiky, fanned-out ponytail. She usually wears a custom-made outfit that is crafted of thin metal mesh to fit the lines of her body, which covers her from neck to thigh. Over this, she typically wears a tan overcoat with a purple in-seam and a pocket on each side, a dark orange mini-skirt, a dark blue belt, and pale grey shin guards. In addition to the typical forehead protector, she also wears a small pendant that looks like a snake fang. She has become progressively more muscular, and by the start of Part II, Anko possesses a noticeably toned physique.
As a child, Anko wore a sleeveless chainmail mesh shirt, chainmail armbands that reached to her elbows, dark shorts, and knee-length boots. Though during her time as a preteen when following Orochimaru, she instead wears a brown-red t-shirt with bracelets, white shorts and chainmail leggings.
Abilities[]

Being a tokubetsu jōnin, Anko is considered to be a highly skilled and deadly kunoichi. Even as a child, her talent gained the attention of Orochimaru who would take her up as his disciple. By the start of Part II, she has become even more dangerous, being deemed by Kakashi Hatake to be strong and competent enough to become a full-fledged jōnin.
Chakra and Physical Prowess[]
Anko has always had above-average chakra reserves and this is one of the things that stood out to Orochimaru. She is someone that excelled at outlasting her opponents rather than initially overwhelming them, but her overall physical attributes and Taijutsu skills were fairly average. As she began to train more intensively by herself and alongside the likes of Calel Mazoku and Might Guy, her physique becomes hardened and more defined, her physical prowess increased considerably, including her hand-to-hand combat ability. By Part II, she can more than hold her own against powerful Taijutsu user's at close-quarter's and her strength, speed and durability are all much more impressive.
Ninjutsu[]

While under Orochimaru's wing, she was taught many of his techniques, being able to summon Snakes, and use the Hidden Shadow Snake Hands and its stronger variant as well as perform Orochimaru's murder-suicide technique. Her skill with these techniques, in particular, allowed her to easily outmanoeuvre the collaborative efforts of multiple attackers. She was also the first surviving recipient of his Cursed Seal of Heaven, which appears as three tomoe at the back of her neck. Though it flares up from time to time in its attempt to encourage her to use it, she refrains from doing so. As of Part II, she is also capable of summoning Hawks, which she can use to travel around quickly and fly. She has a firm and strong enough understanding of ninjutsu to effectively teach and mentor people and handle her own Genin team, even if she doesn't actually want to. She can create shadow clones, swiftly switch her body with objects and use the Body Flicker Technique to move about quickly. Anko is also highly skilled in the use of Genjutsu, being able to ensnare people in illusion's that alter their surroundings and make them lose their bearing's. As a high-level genjutsu user, she is also highly resistant to similarly high-level techniques, being capable of discerning real from fake in a genjutsu world.
Nature Transformation[]

Anko is proficient in the Fire, Earth and Yin Release nature transformations. While she didn't put much thought or emphasis on elemental ninjutsu originally, after fighting Cal and having her Cursed Mark removed, she began to really see the potential in having a host of elemental techniques at her disposal. With fire, she can create a fine blast of fire that runs along the length of pre-prepared ninja wire or she can simply expel fire from her mouth to quickly assault her target. With earth, she can create a large earth wall to defend against a variety of attacks, borough through the ground to perform sneak attack's or escape, as well as summon snakes to bind and capture her targets abruptly from underground.
Bukijutsu[]
Anko has incredible aim, able to make a perfect Konoha symbol out of dango sticks without even looking. This noted accuracy, extends to her ability with weapons, being capable of hitting fast-moving targets with senbon, shuriken and kunai alike, as well as using explosive tags with great efficacy. She can also wield swords of varying lengths with considerable skill, though as noted by Yūgao Uzuki, she favors smaller weapons over swords. Anko is also skilled in incorporating poison into her attacks, imbuing her senbon, shuriken, and kunai with a poison that can debilitate and paralyze someone with as much as a scratch.

Part I[]
Chūnin Exams[]
Anko hears about Cal knocking out one of the placed foil ninja in the first stage of the exam's and has a good laugh about it. She proctors the second stage of the Chūnin Exams held in Konoha. She breaks into the room where the first stage was held and showily introduces herself to the assembled genin. When she realizes that she entered too soon, she tries deflecting blame by instead reprimanding the first stage's proctor, Ibiki Morino, for how many genin were allowed to pass to the second stage. She leads the genin to the Forest of Death where she explains the rules for the second stage and the dangers they'll face in the forest. She attacks Naruto Uzumaki with a kunai when he suggests she's exaggerating, only for the kunai to be returned to her by Shiore, a Kusa-nin.
Shortly after the second stage gets underway, Anko is alerted to the discovery of three dead Kusa-nin, among them Shiore. From examining the bodies it becomes clear to her that they've been dead for some time and, because they're all missing their faces, she concludes that Orochimaru has infiltrated the Chūnin Exams. She orders that the Third Hokage be informed of what's happened, that two teams of Anbu be deployed, and then goes into the forest to find Orochimaru on her own. She locates him shortly after nightfall and tries to use the Twin Snakes Mutual Death Technique on him, only to discover at the last moment that she's been attacking a shadow clone. He reactivates her dormant Cursed Seal of Heaven, immobilising her with the pain, and warns her not to cancel the Chūnin Exams before departing.
