Ayato Shinohara was a famous shinobi from Konohagakure, known mainly for his exploits during the Third Shinobi War. He was eventually promoted to Jōnin and assigned to lead Team Ayato; which consisted of the three top students in the village at the time. Under his tutelage, Team Ayato would reach great heights and live up to their prestigious name, distinguishing themselves as the best squad of Genin in Konoha at the time. All of this changed one day when a mission went terribly wrong and Ayato was lost behind enemy lines, and presumed deceased.

Ayato was known by many as an exuberant and friendly individual, who was close to several of his fellow Jōnin and easy to socialise with. He also possessed a rebellious nature and refusal to follow rules; a maverick streak which would be passed down to all three of his students, and their children as well. While he was bubbly and carefree, Ayato was a hard worker and an individual dedicated to his duties and his village.

A Jōnin and respected shinobi in Konohagakure, Ayato was a greatly skilled combatant who forked out a reputation during the Third Shinobi War as just a mere child. His skill with the Fire and Wind Releases was overshadows only by his unmatched prowess with a Kusarigama. Ayato was capable of easily taking on large groups of enemy Jōnin and winning, highlighting his combat prowess.
