Baji is a jōnin of Sunagakure, high ranking member of Suna ANBU, and a member of Sungakure's Advisory Council. Despite his suspicious deeds and frequent unsanctioned actions within the ANBU, Baji only ever acts in what he believes are the village's best interests.
Background[]
Baji was born in a small village somewhere in the Land of Wind, eventually settling in Sunagakure. During this time, the Land of Wind's Daimyō began to cut down on Sunagakure's budget and instead used Konohagakure's less expensive services. The Third Kazekage therefore saw his own village in danger of extinction. In order to prevent that, he decided to focus on increasing the quality of the ninja in the village. With the discovery of his Magnet Release, Baji was recruited to the academy and eventually into ANBU.
During the Third Shinobi War. The Third Kazekage would disappear. Soon, the village was forced to choose a Fourth Kazekage, though they still attempted to search for him in later years. It was not until the start of the Fifth Kazekage's reign, did his fate become known. As Konohagakure wished to form a peace treaty with the Iwa, they deliberately had the meeting on the Suna borderline, prompting Baji and his forces to oversee the events should a battle occur. Later, When Gaara's inability to control Shukaku proved a problem, the Fourth Kazekage tasked Baji's ANBU unit with the duty of attacking the boy both physically and psychologically to test his actual mastery over the beast's power.
Personality[]
Although Baji is described to be loyal, kind and respected, like many Sand ninja, he is ruthless and stern in battle, as they are all trained to put accomplishing missions before comradeship. With his experience in battle, he holds a lot of confidence in his power.
Appearance[]

Baji is a very tall man with dark tanned skin. A bit of his turban-like head gear hangs from the right side of his face. He dons the standard attire of a Suna-nin, complete with a red forehead protector and flak jacket . After a clash with Arikurin, he had a puppet arm surgically attached in place of his right arm. His ANBU attire consists of standard Suna gear with his black devil mask. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, he sports the Allied Shinobi Forces' forehead protector.
Abilities[]
Baji is a powerful jōnin of his village, as well as one of its council's highest-ranking members; he's often shown taking charge of military operations. He has the ability to manipulate cloth using his Cloth Binding Technique, which he can use to completely immobilise an opponent. He is also very knowledgeable of other village's techniques, as he was also able to recognise one of Konoha's high-level techniques at first sight, as well as how to counter it.

Baji possess the Magnet Release kekkei genkai, which he uses to magnetise anything he touches, thus fully manipulating objects at his discretion and allowing him a variety of attacks against his enemies. In particular, his shuriken. By magnetising these tools, he ca produce a powerful magnetic field within any other object that came into contact with them, which would then attract other magnetic objects towards the target, dramatically increasing the chances of a successful follow-up attack. He could use his magnetism to disrupt the electrical impulses in the brain, effectively blocking a person's entire nervous system from functioning. He is also able to rip metallic ore and rocks from his environment to make makeshift projectiles to overwhelm an opponent.

Baji has a Hanasaki puppet right arm that he uses with chakra threads. The puppet arm could extend a hidden blade from the palm to be used offensively, his puppet arm was coated in poison. The right has several other hidden weapons and can fire towards the enemy. The arm rotates at high speed, launching the wooden cylinders attached to it. The cylinders then open, each one releasing a large amount of senbon, creating a quick rain of poisoned needles in all directions. The prosthetic arm also has a Chakra Shield.

Infiltrate Sunagakure[]

Baji helps defend the Sunagakure Library against an intruder in the restricted area. After clashing with Arikurin, Baji loses the use of his right arm after being critically injured. He is taken to Suna Hospital where he has a prosthetic puppet arm attached by Sasori. Sometime later, Baji's team guarded the Fourth Kazekage and a representative from Kirigakure. Their villages were secretly developing an alliance. Such an alliance would break the delicate peace that had been formed after the conclusion of the Third Shinobi World War, and inevitably initiate another war. During the meeting, a group of Kona-ANBU were spotted and began to flee. They are swiftly defeated by Mukai and his team.
Part I[]
Chūnin Exams[]
Baji was first seen watching the preliminary rounds of the third part of the Chūnin Exam. He was shown next during the final rounds, which led to the Konoha invasion of the Sand and Sound shinobi. He returned to Suna when the invasion was abandoned. He was later seen discovering the decomposed bodies of the Fourth Kazekage and his bodyguards, before realising that they had all been tricked by Orochimaru.
Sunagakure Support Mission[]
At a meeting Baji disapproves of Baki's requesting assistance from Konoha before giving the mission of pursuing Matsuri's kidnappers to Kankurō, Temari, and Gaara. Temari and Kankurō protested that the kidnappers' goal was Gaara and if the mission was going to be assigned to them, Baji should at least come with them. Baji recalled his conversation with an adviser about the possibility of not chasing Gaara, but was denied.

Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation[]
Baji helps defeat reincarnated Swordsman of The MIst
Baji is placed in the Sealing Team during the Fourth Shinobi World War. He is incorporated as a main part of Kakashi Hatake's plan to stop the reincarnated shinobi starting with Zabuza in order to lift the mist shrouding the battlefield.
