"As long as I live I swear to protect those who cannot protect themselves—as well as those who I love no matter the cost! That is my ninja way!"

Those who don’t personally know Chikara would say that he frequently comes off as stoic or deadpan, however, underneath that stony facade is a completely selfless, passionate, and tenacious shinobi. From a young age, it was apparent that he inherited his mother’s unyielding love and compassion towards others — something his father affectionately compares him to. Even towards strangers, Chikara is always kind and charitable, never refusing to help whoever is in need. Notably, this inherent sentiment extended to the environment and its inhabitants, e.g. without hesitation, he’d always protect various insects from his younger brother’s mercilessly childish fun or scolding his parents for not keeping up with the many plants around the house. He’d even go as far as giving each plant its own name, Chikara would often time adamantly express to his family (mainly his father and brother) how important everything was to the Earth’s ecosystem — much to his brother’s annoyance.
This endearing reverence helped him to understand that all life is equally important, genuinely believing that no one life is more significant than another, not even his own. This belief system quickly helped paved the way for him to become a pacifist, showing a clear distaste for mindless violence and bloodshed. After being given the rank of genin, the vow he took as a pacifist to never take a life without justifiable cause oftentimes clashed with his superiors. If an assassination mission couldn’t be justifiably proven, then Chikara would refuse to carry out the order, this would result in him only being sent out on certain missions. While in the field if he did have to fight he’d always resort to non-lethal tactics to quickly and safely subdue his adversaries. However, like with all beliefs, his too would be eventually tested — especially during his second and final encounter with his brother’s alleged killer, Daichi Yamamoto. It took everything in him to suppress his urges to outright attempt to bring his brother’s killer to justice via his own death, however, Chikara had to remember that all life is precious, opting instead to try and reason with Daichi’s nonexistent humanity in hopes of avoiding a fatalistic showdown.
Despite overall having a calm non-violent demeanor, Chikara can get uncharacteristically angry and fiercely protective of anyone especially close to him — including his various comrades — is endangered in any way. Chikara also doesn’t tolerate bullies who take advantage of the weak particularly those who are unable to protect themselves. Mirroring his father, he’d oftentimes take personal responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of his friends during times of crisis. Whenever his teammates acted unprofessionally — much to their dismay — he’d waste no time chastising them while at the same time apologizing for their unsavory behavior. Due to his innate empathic abilities, he tries to make sure that everyone around him is emotionally healthy — partly because he hates feeling the negative emotions of people around him. Back when his brother was alive, Chikara subconsciously took the responsibility for helping his brother with various academic projects while he was attending the Ninja Academy, despite his younger brother being hailed as a prodigy.
Chikara always shows the utmost respect to both his superiors and peers, being sure to never waste an opportunity to address someone with the appropriate honorifics. As he got older this aspect of his personality never seemed to waiver. Before showing an interest in being a ninja, Chikara showed a deep appreciation and dedication towards knowledge unlike his younger twin brother, Tensei. He always enjoyed the idea of always pushing himself academically, this was more prevalent when he would spend long hours in his mother’s office while she was away reading her notes on the human anatomy and medical ninjutsu. Going as far as possessing extensive medical knowledge comparable to some of Sugigakure’s best doctors. Being a member of the Kōboku clan meant that Chikara would develop some sort of emotional related quirk, his ended up being when he experiences any sort of intense emotion be it happiness or anger it causes him to cry.
Interestingly enough, as a young child, Chikara demonstrated meek and timid characteristics. These now extinct traits were aided by a crumpling sense of social anxiety. During that time he never spoke a word around anyone, causing his mother to suspect that he was unable to speak, it wasn’t until the events following the Sugigakure Invasion that he officially spoke his first words. If he felt cornered whenever a social situation arose, as a defense mechanism, he’d try and hide behind one of his family members; if that wasn’t an option he’d sometimes burst out in tears until he was left alone. Soon after his brother was killed in action, he gradually grew out of these tendencies, by channeling aspects of his brother’s personality until he was able to find his own confidence. Years later, when first meeting and interacting with his now wife, Tsubaki Serizawa, aspects of his long buried submissive traits would start to resurface.
Chikara is a short, but muscular shinobi, it was stated that he is currently the shortest member of his clan coming in at only 165 cm. He’s depicted—much like every other member of the Kōboku clan—as having a vaguely demonic-like appearance, complete with stereotypical elf-like ears (sizes tend to vary among clan members) and slightly saturated abnormal cyan-colored skin. As a kid, he was oftentimes teased by other children from other clans for his especially pointy ears, this harassment caused him to tuck them under his hair whenever he was in public. Between his father’s encouragement and his traumatic experiences as a prisoner during the Invasion of Sugigakure, he was able to conjure up enough self-confidence to proudly no longer hide his ears around his peers. Throughout his shinobi career, he’s worn several hairstyles and outfits, Chikara commonly wears his black and orange umbre-colored hair in an extremely long braided ponytail while a section of bangs covers his forehand where the Strength of a Hundred Seal is located. His version of the fūinjutsu seal closely resembles it’s commonly associated users, however, Chikara’s is slightly larger, and instead of the usual violet color, his rhombus is mauve. Exclusive to him and his younger twin brother, both were born with a rare case of heterochromia, which means instead of both eyes being dark purple their right eye is green.
