Cypress (檜, Hinoki) are the Takigakure equivalent to the ANBU and, as such, are all masters of missions requiring the use of assassination and torture. Due to the importance of their missions and need for stealth, they take their orders directly from the Takikage and answer specifically to them. As a result of this, they often wear their masks at all time, even while in the village, as a means to secure their identities with the exception of the group's leader, Fukyū Nenshō.
History[]
Takigakure, having been betrayed by Kakuzu sometime before the First Shinobi World War, needed a way to protect its villagers and treasures respectively. With this in mind, the new village elders, who replaced the one's killed by Kakuzu, and the second village leader of Takigakure decided to form an organization; the ANBU. They created the organization in order to prevent future occurrences, like the incident with Kakuzu, from happening again. They tasked the organization with the protection of the village and it's treasures so that both remain safe and protected.
Duties[]
When they were first conceived, the group was stationed out of the village and could not leave, no matter the circumstance. They were tasked with the protection of the village and it's treasures as well as handling internal affairs, similar to the Konoha Police Force. This also entalled the protection of not only important village officials, including elders, but also typical citizens as well. Members of the Takigakure ANBU would often patrol the streets, looking for citizens who were breaking the law and would arrest them.
Their duties have started to evolve, however, and members are now allowed to take on traditional missions and leave the village. They may also be tasked with other high profile missions outside of the village, including VIP assassination. In addition, when the village leader or the Daimyō of the Land of Waterfalls has to make a public appearance, the Takigakure ANBU will be tasked with their protection. In this regard, their duties have evolved into the modern world, becoming identical to that of other nations ANBU organizations.
