By absorbing chakra via Dark Release: Inhaling Maw the user transforms that chakra into blue flames that fire from the palm of the user's hand. Then, by combining it with the flames of the All-Burning Flame Creation, the flames' heat intensify as they are shooting from their palm. Instead of burning on oxygen, these flames burn off of chakra meaning anything that has chakra will be incinerated by this technique. Since Kaien Shinto could simply absorb the flames, there isn't any possible way this technique could back fire on him.
