By utilizing the souls devoured with the sealing technique, Sesshōmaru is able to manipulate the vitality within them to accomplish feats such as resurrecting the dead. This is the antipode of the Dead Demon Consuming Seal.

When this technique is activated, a distinctive set of cursed seals spread across the Shinigami's left arm and he wraps it with prayer beads. By thrusting his arm into the deceased chest, he is able to infuse the corpse with a gathered soul's life force and restore them at the expense of using up the soul; the soul is thereby "erased" and ceases to exist. They do not depart to the Pure Land and are unable to be reincarnated through jutsu such as Impure World Reincarnation.

On the other hand, Sesshōmaru can alternatively choose to reincarnate a sealed soul through a sacrifice - by thrusting his left arm into the victim, he is able to concurrently extract the living's soul and replace it with another of his choosing. The cursed seals spread from the Shinigami's arm onto the contact point on the vessel, overriding them with the chakra and physical characteristics of the entering soul's. This process appears to be painful as the victim is agonizingly ripped apart and remade as the soul's physical form at the time of their death. In the end, the person reincarnated is revived in a real body of flesh and blood.

Lastly, Sesshōmaru can also uses this technique as a means of immortality - by draining a sealed soul's energy, he is able to extend his lifespan and rapidly heal as needed to a much greater extent than chakra edibles. The Shinigami can also offer this power to others, giving them the same benefit he receives.
