Illusionary Advancement Techniques (幻前進術, Genzenshin Jutsu) is unique style of combat practiced by citizens in the Elemental Nations who specialize in genjutsu. In essence, this form is one wherein a practitioner combines two or more illusions, cast immediately after another, to use whenever the caster so wishes. This can be done immediately or when certain conditions are met, similar to a Transcription Seal. They can also be merged fully into a single, intense, powerful phantasm that works to destroy an opponent psychologically. That said, these techniques require an exceptional amount of chakra control and good speed in order to cast illusions back to back; as a result, there are few who are able to use Genjutsu Advancement Techniques.

This art form was developed by the Kurama Clan; originally created during the days of the Warring States Era, it was made solely for the purpose of battling against dōjutsu wielders such as the Uchiha Clan. Due to their complexity, these types of illusions are unable to be “read” by the Sharingan and its more powerful variants such as the Mangekyō Sharingan; this in turn makes the techniques immune to the sharingan's copying or reversal abilities.
