The Haikotsugan (灰骨眼, literally meaning: Ashen Bone Eye) is a dōjutsu of Hiruko Ōtsutsuki's, awakened in her right eye. It is an ocular evolution (眼の進化, me no shinka) of her Shikotsumyaku, brought about by the divine blessing of her royal mistress, Nunoshi Ōtsutsuki. It is a monochromatic eye with ethereal, smoky patterns that fade from darker on the edges to lighter near the pupil and boasts sovereignty over the domains of bone, ash, and decay.
Overview[]
The Haikotsugan firstly seems to grant Hiruko dominion over bone and skeletal structures, but in truth it is high concentrations of calcium. In contrast to the self-limited nature of her Shikotsumyaku, this dōjutsu may delve into the very marrow of other living things, commanding osteogenesis and osteolysis as she pleases. Just a single glance can twist, grow, and shatter bone at will and she may visualize and manipulate naturally occurring calcium deposits, making the very ground a reservoir of death as she could create elaborate structures or raise skeletal servants from scattered remains that seek to carry out her will. At any moment, she could transmute skeletal structures into ashen ones, outright decaying her foes on a molecular level and thus reducing them into ash although it can be used in a more local manner.
Through this dōjutsu, Hiruko may also create and manipulate bone ash (骨灰, koppai) with precision and the ferocity of a storm at the focal point of her vision and within a certain range of herself. Just the slightest particle of this insidious ash can initiate the process of decay in chakra-based substances and those who breathe enough in experience ongoing disruptions in their ability to mold chakra until their body naturally eliminates it, which can be several hours. More sinister still is the ash's ability to subtly corrupt the cognitive processes of those exposed, allowing Hiruko to influence the thoughts and actions of her victims. As the ash exists as physical matter rather than a chakra-based technique, this violation of free will proves nearly impossible to detect through conventional means. The bone ash becomes an extension of her will, dancing through the air in patterns that blur the line between beautiful and horrific, each particle a potential vector for decay, disruption, or domination.
