Ice Release (氷遁, Hyōton, Viz: Ice Style) is a nature transformation kekkei genkai, a combination of water and wind, and is the unique Kekkei Genkai of the Land of Water's Yuki clan; it is also the unique Kekkei Genkai of the Land of Snow's Suiren clan. By way of Eishun's marriage to Hazuki Uchiha and the birth of Izumi Uchiha, the nature transformation is also a Kekkei Genkai of the Uchiha clan.

Overview[]

Ice Release, as implied by its name, gives its users the ability to create and manipulate ice through combining the basic nature transformations of water and wind. Unique to the Suiren clan is their ability to manipulate their bodily temperature and structure, culminating in allowing them to essentially become semi-immune to dying from natural causes. Shared among users of Ice Release is their abnormally low body heat when compared to normal shinobi; if standing in an environment with ample moisture in the air, it may suddenly begin to snow near an Ice Release user. Within the Land of Water, the Yuki clan was persecuted for their dangerous abilities, forcing its members to diaspora to escape persecution; the clan was labeled "extinct" by the country with those members who do crop up every now and then being quickly disposed of in the true fashion of the "Bloody Mist".

Depending on one's level of mastery over this nature transformation, one can be limited by amounts of atmospheric moisture as one is forced to depend on natural sources of water to manipulate into ice; once a certain level of proficiency is reached, chakra alone will be enough to generate even the largest expanses of ice with minimal effort. Experienced users of Ice Release can generate ice that is resistant to even the strongest Fire Release techniques as shown with Haku, a descendant of the Yuki clan, whose mirrors of ice, did not melt despite Sasuke Uchiha's Great Fireball Technique, and Azuma Suiren who was able to create panels of ice that were resistant to Amaterasu even if only temporarily. Not only can one regulate an enemy's body temperature, one can crystallize an opponent, transforming them into a statue of ice to kill them.

Glacier Release[]

Glacier Release (氷遁, Suiton, Viz: Glacier Style) is the term used to describe Izumi Uchiha's unique ice granted to her via her Mangekyō Sharingan. Serving as the 'polar opposite' to Amaterasu (at least, element-wise), it is Izumi's inheritance as half-Suiren taking root in the Mangekyō Sharingan Kekkei Genkai of the Uchiha Clan....

Trivia[]

  • Glacier Release is written with the same kanji as Ice Release but is given a different pronunciation, making it audibly share a pronunciation with Water Release; this is due to the limitation that the word for "glacier" is written with two kanji while nature transformations are written with a single kanji with the exception of Yin-Yang Release.
  • Through Izumi Uchiha who occasionally mentors him, Sasuke Uchiha is able to utilize an inferior version of this nature transformation by first generating water then rapidly cooling it with wind to create ice.
