The Ippondatara (一本踏鞴, "One-Legged Bellows") are surveillance devices used by the Red Tongue organization for covert operations and assassinations.

Overview

Not quite a drone, the Ippondatara is an odd object. They are about the size of a baseball and are much harder than steel. Its most notable feature may be the giant red eye peering around a scene which possesses a wide-span 300° degree view. Each of them can be remotely controlled through a device attacked to the commander's body. The devices appear to have no capability of seeing through unusually bright lights and constantly transmit information to a database.

Abilities

They are capable of detecting sound, movement, vibration, temperature, chakra, biological energy and chemicals within the space 100 meters around them. Impressively and much like a similar device, the Ippondatara can also create an estimate of the power level a targeted individual might possess. In this way they are much like Perception Type ninja, determining the clan and land a person may hail from. They are "intelligent" in that their operating systems can calculate the possible intentions of things around them as well as danger levels. It should be noted that these objects are swift and agile, easily evading rapid fired kunai and salvo attacks.

The Red Beam starts about the diameter of the device and expands.

The devices possess a storage of solar energy which can be used to fire off powerful, rapid moving red beams of energy capable of tearing a whole clean through a steel wall.

Shikki, the leader of the Red Tongue, never goes anywhere without at least ten of the eyes surrounding him in secret or with obvious intentions. He has been known to use the soundless, discreet objects to record video footage or take photos of targeted individuals for blackmail or assassination. If need be the Ippondatara can emit light as if it were a flashlight and some are smaller than others. Each Ippondatara has a charge time of four hours and can function at optimal effort for eight hours before needing to be recharged. It is unknown how the Red Tongue came across the advanced technology to create something such as the Ippondatara.

• In Japanese mythology an ippondatara (一本踏鞴) is an ugly yokai.
  • "Ippondatara is a shy yōkai, and tends to stay away from inhabited areas. It moves about by hopping around and doing somersaults. It avoids humans, though on winter days it is not uncommon to find the unique prints of this yōkai’s large, single foot in the snow. While it is mostly harmless, once per year on December 20th, the ippondatara turns violent. Those entering the mountains on that day who run into the ippondatara are squashed flat under its powerful foot. "
