Kagegakure (影隠れの里 Kagegakure no Sato; literally meaning 'Village Hidden Among Shadows'; also known as Village Hidden in the Shadows or Hidden Shadow Village) is the Hidden Village of the Land of Shade. It is the setting of Naruto: Kageki. As one of the Six Great Ninja Villages, Kagegakure has a Kage as its leader known as the Kurakage. There have been five Kurakage, the most recent being Sayuri. Kage has a reputation for producing extremely powerful shinobi, though its military influence has waned somewhat in the past three years, due to attacks by Yashagorō and Mageta. The shinobi of this village usually wear black shirts which have the Kagegakure symbol on the shoulders, along with matching-colored pants over a brown flak jacket which also has the Kage symbol on the back, and pockets on the chest area. They also tend to wrap bandages around their legs.

The Land of Shade
History[]
Founding[]
Shortly after the creation of ninja villages, there was chaos throughout the Land of Shade. Numerous ninja clans were attacking and slaughtering each other, in order to gain territory for settlement. Of the countless ninja clans, the Yūmei Clan and the Murakami Clan were the strongest. After much bloodshed, the Yūmei head, Akira Yūmei, approached the Murakami with a peace treaty. The Murakami accepted, and the he used his Mashieisō to create Kagegakure. For this reason he was selected to be the First Kurakage by the villagers.

Rise to Fame[]
After Kuragakure was founded, the next challenge that presented itself to Akira, now the Village Head, was how the village would earn income to support itself. Akira hit upon the idea of assigning Kage shinobi to missions posted by other countries. In doing so, the village would earn substantial revenue. Other countries preferred Kage shinobi because they were reputed to be ruthless in battle.
Seidai Bridge[]
For a few months, Kagegakure's system of earning revenue seemed to be working perfectly. However, a new problem soon arose. Because of Kage's distance from the mainland, ninja had to spend a lot of time travelling to their various missions by boat. The village designers commissioned the Seidai Bridge which connected the Land of Shade to the mainland. In this way, ninja could travel on foot to various countries.
