"I know your past, your true origins, have been concealed from you, but I can reveal the truth." |
Kanato Garasu (奏硝 ) is a former monk from Shizukane Monastery in the Land of Wind and a high ranking member of Suna Council.
Background[]
Shizukane Monastery
Kanato was born in the Land of Wind, where he spent much of his early life in the Shizukane Monastery dedicated to the study of sealing techniques and spiritual enlightenment. The monks who raised him were among the last keepers of Bunpuku's teachings. Unlike the shinobi villages that sought to weaponize tailed beasts, this monastery focused on understanding, pacifying, and sealing chakra-based entities with minimal harm.
Kanato and Raizan
From a young age, Kanato displayed an innate talent for music and fūinjutsu. This gift set him apart, and allowed hims to receive specialized training from Tetsuya Sōgen. He was particularly drawn to an ancient stringed instrument, the Qanun, which he found deep within the monastery’s archives—a relic passed down for generations. Among his fellow monks was Raizan Kagerou, a peer who trained just as relentlessly but never seemed to reach the same heights. While Kanato effortlessly wove melodies into powerful seals, Raizan’s approach with his music was raw and forceful, often criticized for lacking the monastery’s refined control. Though Kanato never saw him as a rival, Raizan saw things differently.
Raizan is jealous
At some point, The Keepers of Shiin's Will formed an alliance with Shizukane Monastery. Soon after, a mission of great importance arose. Kanoto Garasu and Shion Shiin risked everything to free Aoide from her cruel fate. In the end, Shion paid the ultimate price, sacrificing his life so Aoide, Kanato and Renge could flee. Kanato's praise grew even more, Unbeknownst to Kanato, Raizan’s resentment festered over the years. While he viewed Raizan as a fellow student, perhaps even a friend, Raizan saw him as an obstacle—a constant reminder of what he lacked. Kanato never understood why Raizan distanced himself, nor did he realize the extent of his growing bitterness.
The Followers breach the gate.
By the time he learned of Raizan’s betrayal—stealing the secret seal and opening the Rust-Colored Gateway—it was too late. In a carefully orchestrated assault, Followers of Shiin launched a surprise attack to steal Aoide back. They descended upon the monastery. However, Kanato used a secret escape route beneath the monastery. When the battle turned against them, Kanato, realizing they couldn’t fight their way out, activated this hidden seal, revealing a subterranean passage. He carried Aoide through the tunnel as the monastery collapsed behind them, sealing their pursuers out.
Shizukane Monastery is destroyed
Eventually, the monastery fell, and with it, the legacy of Bunpuku was reduced to ashes. Among those lost in the battle was Tetsuya, who fought to his final breath to protect what remained of their teachings. His death marked the true end of an era. In the wake of the Shizukane Monastery destruction, Their path eventually led them to the Church of the Hidden Sand the monastery’s sister church located within the borders of Sunagakure.
Personality[]
Kanato is a composed individual, often speaking in a poetic or philosophical manner. His years of training under monks gave him an otherworldly perspective on life. Despite his serene demeanor, Kanato is not without hidden depths of emotion. There is a quiet intensity beneath his surface, particularly when it comes to protecting sacred knowledge or those he deems worthy of his trust.
Appearance[]
Kanato as an adult
Kanato is a dark-skinned man with a commanding presence, his weathered features telling a story of wisdom and hardship. Three distinct circular markings adorn his forehead, symbols of his devotion and discipline. Like most monks, his head is completely bald.

Kanato carefully read Aka’s message, feeling the heavy responsibility it carried.
