Komaru Ken (ケン子丸, Ken Komaru) is a shinobi of Sunagakure, known most for his skills in designing and controlling puppets. Revered as one of the world's best puppet makers, Komaru has earned the title Grand Designer (壮大設計者, Sōdai Sekkei-sha) for his talents.
Background[]
Komaru was born to an engineer and his wife in Sunagakure. Komaru, from a young age, studied the art of making puppets under his father, quickly mastering the trade and planning on going into the business when he was an adult. However, around his seventh birthday, his mother sent him to the Shinobi Academy to learn ninjutsu. He did not like the academy and often skipped classes there in favor of making and training with puppets alongside his father.
Komaru's skill later was recognized by the Kazekage, allowing him to graduate early and become one of the youngest shinobi in the village. It is around this time he began work on what he referred to as his "greatest" puppets, Angel and Demon. Despite his great skill in ninjutsu, he went on very few missions during this time, focusing more on making these puppets than serving his village. Komaru used several loaned puppets in various competitions and exams, quickly rising to the rank of jōnin.
Around the time of his fifteenth birthday, he came close to finishing his puppets. However, a mistake in construction caused an explosion that killed his father and destroyed his right arm. He used the puppets, thankfully in tact, to carry himself to the hospital and received emergency medical treatment. He later fashioned an arm for himself from spare parts found in the wreckage of his house.
Appearance[]
Komaru is a short and slender man with pale white skin, spiky blonde hair and jet black eyes. His skin is made even paler from the time he spends in his home developing puppets. His eyes are often bloodshot due to strain from working on small circuits in puppets. His hair, often disheveled, is also stained and messy because he spends more time working than bathing. He most often wears a simple brown robe with a tan scarf and a tan rope wrapped around his waist. When in battle, he adds two scrolls where he holds his "Angel" and "Demon" puppets and sports a Sunagakure forehead protector on a white band around his forehead. His right arm is composed of wood and metal from the elbow down as he had it recreated after it was destroyed.
As a genin, Komaru wore a brown jacket with a very short collar partially unzipped over a fishnet shirt. He wore a forehead protector on a tan band around his neck alongside black pants and tan sandals. His hair was much longer, reaching his chin, and his skin was slightly tanner. As a Chūnin, Komaru wore the same outfit, only replacing the forehead protector with a scarf and wearing a white forehead protector like a bandana around his head.
