A technique exclusive to the Mangekyō Sharingan, Kunitsukami allows the user to receive the thoughts of the target in real-time, allowing them to predict an opponent with surreal accuracy. It is considered an antipode to Kotoamatsukami.
Overview[]
Kimi initiates the technique by first establishing eye-contact with her target and linking their spiritual chakra. As the technique is initiated, the victim starts to gradually feel a sense of dread as a side-effect, which may even cause an inexperienced shinobi to start panicking. At this point, the spiritual chakra connection allows Kimi to visualize an opponent's actions in the form of ethereal images (in a way very similar to the regular Sharingan) way before the opponent executes them, giving her ample time to counter them effectively. This is done by feeding her the target's thoughts through the chakra link.
More supplementary uses for this technique also include literally hearing the target's thoughts and using a much faster, enhanced version of the Mind Reading technique to search for general and hidden memories (a facet often compared to the Rinnegan's Human Path) with simple eye-contact. However, these actions are somewhat harder to perform.
Aside from the usual Mangekyō Sharingan drawbacks, it also causes severe migraines and a sense of paranoia if overused in a single day. Also, when using the mind-reading technique, the way it vividly plays-back the memories on Kimi's own mind often disturbs her when she comes across a negative experience, possibly deteriorating her mind-state.
It's been said that this dōjutsu is the antipode to Kotoamatsukami, because while Kotoamatsukami allows one to control another's actions, as in controlling someone else's destiny, Kunitsukami allows one to read them, as in predicting another's destiny. It has also been theorized that overusing and abusing Kunitsukami frequently might lead an Uchiha to madness, and that the only way to rescue that Uchiha is by casting it's antipode, the Kotoamatsukami, upon the victim.
Influence[]
The Kunitsukami (国津神, Literally meaning: Earthly Gods) are the group of gods in Shinto belief belonging to the Earth, in contrast with the Amatsukami, the gods in the Heavens. Among the Kunitsukami, Sarutahiko Ōkami (猿田毘古神) is their leader and the most popular of the group, due to the fact of being the one to greet Ninigi (瓊瓊杵), Amaterasu's grandson, to the Japanese archipelago.
