Kurosawa (黒澤, Literally meaning: Black Swamp) is a fairly long and thin sword, with a rectangular handguard and a long hilt wrapped in bandages. This blade can effectively be used to perform Iaidō, with highly skilled practitioners like Mifune and Asashi demonstrating great skill and dexterity. In canon, Mifune has also shown to slash through Ibuse's head when the latter was swallowed by the salamander. In fanon, Asashi has also done the same feat using Kurosawa; however, Kurosawa is used a medium for him to perform some Light Release techniques like generating a chains of light and even launch one or several light beams.

Trivia[]

  • Mifune refers to this sword as a Meitō (名刀, Literally meaning: Famous/Excellent Sword), which means that Kurosawa has a history and a legendary status, having become part of the identity of its owner.
  • Asashi refers to this sword as Shinsei Meitō (神聖名刀, Literally meaning: Sacred Sword), denoting its significance to the Land of Frost and also becoming part of its owner's identity and status as village head of Shimogakure.
  • The name of the sword is probably derived from the name of the famed samurai film director, Akira Kurosawa, who also directed the film Yōjinbō, where Mifune's name also comes from.
