Land of Hot Water

The Land of Hot Water.

The Land of Hot Water (湯の国, Yu no Kuni) is a country that shares borders with the Land of Frost, the Land of Sound, and the Land of Fire and is ruled by Yukigakure under a village head. Hot springs are common throughout the country, many of which have at least some amount of human settlement built around them. These hot springs are frequently the settlements’ primary or even only source of revenue.

With so much of the population living in remote locations and with its economy being so reliant on tourism, the country has pronounced peaceful tendencies; the Land of Hot Water’s hidden village, Yugakure, is largely responsible for maintaining this peace. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, much of the country is evacuated so as not to get caught up in the fighting between Akatsuki and the Allied Shinobi Forces.

Yugakure

Yugakure.

Yugakure (湯隠れの里, Yugakure no Sato, Literally meaning: Village Hidden in Hot Water) is the hidden village of the Land of Hot Water. Like the country in which it resides, Yugakure has strong inclinations towards pacifism. After years of reluctantly offering combat-related services, Yugakure officially transitioned away from the typical shinobi missions; it prides itself as the “village that has forgotten wars” (戦を忘れた里, Ikusa o Wasureta Sato). The village’s ninja now works almost exclusively within the Land of Hot Water’s borders, keeping the roads safe for tourists and performing odd jobs for the many small settlements around the country.

Makiri (真桐) is the second largest village in the Land of Hot Water and is best known for as a trading hub of commerce, spas, restaurants, and most importantly hotsprings. It is, however, ruled by the mob boss Gaizo Munishi with a vast underground network.

Valley of Hell[]

Valley of Hell

Valley of Hell.

The Valley of Hell (地獄谷, Jigokudani, English TV: Hell Valley) is a remote canyon located in the Land of Hot Water. Like many areas of the country, hot water naturally flows from the earth and pools in the valley; the water is rich with iron, causing it to turn red. Because of the water’s temperature and because of the valley’s geography, foul-smelling steam is always thick in the valley. This makes it quite inhospitable to life, with no native animals and only minimal plant life.
