The Land of Whirlpools (渦の国, Uzu no Kuni, Viz: Land of Eddies) is where the Uzumaki clan originates from. It no longer exists, having been destroyed by other villages[1] and any survivors either scattered across the world or chose to remain and rebuild their home underground. The surname Uzumaki was very common in this country.[2] It was located on an island off of the coast of the Land of Fire.

Uzushiogakure (渦潮隠れの里, Uzushiogakure no Sato, English TV: Hidden Eddy Village, Literally meaning: Village Hidden by Whirling Tides) was the shinobi village of the Land of Whirlpools. Its ninjas were renowned for their fūinjutsu to the point that it led to its destruction in war.[3] Those who survived the village’s destruction scattered across the globe to seek refuge.[4] The people of Uzushiogakure were noted to have notoriously long lives, so it gained the epithet “The Village of Longevity” (長寿の里, Chōju no Sato).[5]
