Just for some clarification: so there is the silo, they came through the door and are on the catwalk. Far below them is the pool with a little pedestal with the bomb on top surrounded by electric water. The bomb is pressure sensitized, meaning you have to be VERY light-touched when handling it.
Well guys, with the semester as crazy as it is (five classes) I've decided to disappear from NF for a while. That means you won't see me around here until summer. Most of you probably won't even notice that I'm gone, but I do need to leave a couple of notes for some people here:
@Con: I'm still up for finishing our RP. I'll check the notification post on your wall, so if you do post just let me know there. I am not sure how often, if at all, I'll be able to get on chat though.
@Ded: I still want to write, at about the same time each night that we've been doing (so ten-ish to twelve-ish for you). You can find me on FMAF chat.
@Zack: Thus the sudden withdrawal from the Seven Swordsmen. Sorry for dumping you. (heh heh heh).
Since KamiGuru closed the thread because he couldn't handle the truth, I might as well respond here.
That's kind of my problem: The most Japanese names here wouldn't fit with the Naruto universe. If you're actually going to give your original character, technique or term Japanese name, then you should give it more effort than just using Google Translator.
Everyone has a different level dude. Some people care about canonical sounding names, other people do not. This is fanon, where we can freely express our own ideas about the series. Fanon is outside of canon anyway.
That being said, I understand your concerns and trust me, I often shake my head at the sheer repetitiveness of mistakes made around here. But what I do NOT do is go around telling every Bob and his brother that their names/articles suck.
The way to improve quality around this place is to model it, not call people or their ideas stupid (even if they are).
And yeah, I agree: I can be very annoying, condecending, stubborn and I do take things way more seriously than I should. And I still think most of the Japanese names here could be better.
Thing is... I do try to be better person, and I genuinely do want to help people. Unfortunately, I fail more than succeed... Sometimes due my emotions, sometimes by choosing wrong words and me being a quite huge perfectionist doesn't help.
So... To those I've made feel bad because of my words, I apologise.
Hm. You know what I don't understand. Jou is actually helping people and people complain. But when other more popular users do the same thing, yet more harshly, we get on it.
Jou you're doing good broski. Um I say if you're going to help, just help people who ask for it. You've established yourself as a good translator so I say just wait until request. I'll probably have some request for you.
Sorry to butt in Jo, but the simple fact is the Japanese here won't get better..well not any time too soon at least. A majority of the people here have no idea how to properly utilise Translator apps (including moi), and many of them who may have knowledge, might not be able to be accurate all the time. But that's an acceptable flaw right there—none of us concerned here are considered to be skilled with Japanese in the first place, we're just here, having fun with our hobbies.
What you're doing is good, but ultimately it's a lost cause if you keep at it this way, and you're just wasting your time if you're getting this passionate over something like this. Not everyone can be as skilled as you are when it comes to Japanese, but in whatever way they can, they try.
No doubt, using Google Translate is one step short of sliding ones head under the guillotine—but people still try, you've just gotta acknowledge that and properly aid them; just like the other 3-4 translators on the site. Policing each page so vehemently and sticking stuff in so adamantly is kinda vexing, however, and many users will take it the wrong way—no matter who does it.
That being said, everyone welcomes someone of your calibre around here, and maybe a spike in the number of translators could ease your concerns about the decrepit state of the Japanese in most of our articles; but whatever unease you possess should be channeled through slightly...gentler methods.
The problem, Con, is that he is saying there is only one way that is right, and that is his way. That is not the case, and there are many good translators on this site. There is a difference between help and imposition.
I should have closed this thread a long time ago...
