Background[]
Moro was born in the wastes of the Land of Claws and was raised by his parents until they were killed by bandits, leaving him to be raised by his elder sister Pakura. Due to Sunagakure's waning military power, the Third Kazekage sent envoys to retrieve Kekkei Genkai wielders from the wastes, which resulted in him and Pakura being sent to Sunagakure to become shinobi for their forces. Since starting his studies at the academy, Moro knew he was never truly welcome in Suna due to his outsider-heritage and the discrimination he and his sister often faced by the villagers.
During the Third Shinobi War when he was fifteen years old, Moro was a Chunin commander of an ambush squadron which gained notoriety by Iwagakure for their ruthless tactics and superior sensory skills, which ultimately caught the attention of Kenzō and Rasa, the Fourth Kazekage, prompting the formation of the Sunagakure Tracking Unit. Near the end of the war, Pakura was deliberately led to her death at the hands of Suna and Kirigakure (executed by the Fourth Kazekage), which caused Moro to violently lash out against his superiors until he was eventually subdued. As an act of repentance, Rasa promoted Moro to the position of Commander of the newly-formed Sunagakure Tracking Unit but made Kenzō the proxy from the council, affectively overriding any authority Moro could gain aside from giving commands to those below him in rank. Moro took the position reluctantly, believing serving the village would be the only way he could overcome his hatred for Suna after the murder of his revered sister.
Personality[]
Moro was a stern-faced and calculating shinobi. He was a domineering leader, was swift in his orders, and was well-respected and feared by his comrades and subordinates. Even some members of the Suna Council fearred his strength, knowing he was the younger brother of Pakura and also possessed the Kekkei Genkai Scorch Release. Believing in the shinobi code, Moro trained all tracker-nin under his command in the arts of espionage, assassination, and body disposal, and upheld the cleansing of emotions when completing missions.
Aside from his demeanor on-duty, Moro held a great sense of empathy and care for his comrades - especially those who were from outside clans or bloodlines, such as Nomasaki Yamamori who he hoped would succeed him as Commander of the Sunagakure Tracking Unit. He had a great sense of honour for his village, which he once held a grudge due to the death of his sister Pakura and the conspiracy that followed. Instead of taking revenge on the Fourth Kazekage and the elders for his sister's murder, Moro swallowed his hatred into feeding his strength as a shinobi, and vowed to fight to make Sunagakure a better place for outsiders so that deaths like Pakura's due to prejudice could be prevented.
It was implied during the Fourth Shinobi War that Moro began to form feelings for the Fifth Mizukage, Mei Terumi. When Mei introduced herself to Moro and his platoon, both Maki and Nomasaki noticed his sudden change in demeanor - with the stone-faced Moro turning red and speaking nervously. It is revealed later in Desert Flowers that Moro and Mei corresponded through letters, which may have been romantic in nature. When attending the wedding of Temari and Shikmaru, Mei was dressed in black as if she were mourning the sudden death of her lover.
Appearance[]
Moro was a tall and large man, standing over 192cm (6"3) and a muscular build. He had short dark green hair that he kept concealed by a makeshift turban, and a strong hard face marked by scars and burns with dark brown eyes.
His attire consisted of worn shinobi garbs, a Suna flak jacket, and a coat of boiled leather, with the Sunagakure shinobi headband covering his forehead. While the commander of the Suna Tracking Unit, he wore a ghastly porcelain masked carved into that of an Oni (鬼, Oni). During the Fourth Shinobi War, he donned the Allied Forces headband and the standard Suna flak jacket.
