Naruto: Rebirth Chronicles (ナルト: 更生伝, Naruto: Kōseiden) is a private alternate universe collaboration organized by Cait and Arthur that follows the lives of Team 13, several generations after the adventures of Naruto and Boruto Uzumaki.
Generations ago, Boruto Uzumaki defeated Kara, but at the cost of massive devastation and loss of human life. The war-torn continent did what it does in the face of calamity: settled in for a long, arduous rebirth. In the face of the chaos, the Shinobi Union was disbanded, as every village moved to secure its own borders and fend for itself. One hundred years have now passed since Boruto’s triumph. Petty wars, leaders both great and inept, and famous shinobi have come and gone, paving the way for a shinobi world that has mostly healed from the carnage wrought by Kara.
The shinobi world exists in a tenuous peace, one held together only by threat of mutually assured destruction, thanks to the redistribution of the Tailed Beasts by Boruto Uzumaki. Konohagakure is rather openly rebuilding its military might after the conclusion of the Sixth Shinobi World War and leveraging its influence over the rest of the shinobi world, much to the displeasure of other villages. Due to Konohagakure’s uncharacteristic belligerence, tensions are boiling underneath the surface of the organization designed to keep the balance and foster cooperation between nations. From the outsider’s perspective, however, Konohagakure’s actions draw a stark contrast with its appearance. A descendant of Boruto has become the Eleventh Hokage. The loyal, jovial personality of Konohagakure’s ninja has not changed. The Will of Fire burns brightly within the village. On the surface, it seems as though everything in Konohagakure is functioning normally, according to the status quo.
However, when one looks beneath the surface, one finds corruption festering. The leaders of some of Konohagakure’s most powerful and storied clans, the Hyūga, the Uchiha, the Nara, the Yamanaka, the Akimichi, are all secretly under the thumb of a less-than-noble Daimyō, who has earned their loyalty through blackmail, deceit, or both. Within the Uchiha clan, especially, restlessness simmers as their new leader, one who replaces a pacifist in Seto Uchiha, the fabled Mirage Man, fosters a culture of renewed arrogance and combativeness, preaching that to be Uchiha is to be above others and to seek power, embrace conflict. The clan of the Mirror Wheel Eyes begins to serve as a reflection of the village, renewing the calls for greater influence and control in Konohagakure that saw the clan driven to nearly total extinction almost a century ago. With the Daimyō’s influence, Sakushi Uchiha, Seto's successor, slowly but surely begins the process of overtaking Konoha for the Uchiha and keeping the other clans down.
Yet, while chaos begins to spread, a new generation of shinobi rises. Kian Uchiha, son of Seto and rightful heir of the Uchiha, Minegumo Kurama, son of Akigumo Kurama and Kurama clan heir, and Hikari Yakushi, orphaned but born with a unique ability, are placed on a team under the command of Arata Sarutobi. Finding themselves placed in the middle of the steadily rising tensions between the shinobi villages, the team works to unravel the truth of what is going on in their village and connect the ominous goings-on that have been occurring: the militarization, the pressuring of their allies, the mysterious “suicide” of Seto Uchiha, and the increasing presence of the Daimyō of the Land of Fire in the village’s affairs.
- As the school year comes to a conclusion, Uchiha Kian, Yakushi Hikari, and Kurama Minegumo experience the thrills and anxieties of having passed their exams to become Genin, anxiously awaiting their team assignments.
- Sarutobi Arata, the new Jōnin instructor of Team Thirteen, reflects on the circumstances that have led to him taking charge of his new students before meeting with their parents to discuss the new Genins' training.
- The newly formed Team Thirteen is officially introduced, only to be informed that to become fully-fledged Genin, there is yet another hurdle they must leap over.
- Before the start of their exam, the members of Team Thirteen wake bright and early, nervous and excited for what their Jōnin instructor has in store for them.
- With each of the Genin having pushed themselves to their limits, the test finally comes to a surprising conclusion, and the kids reflect on everything they learned from the experience.
- Chikara meets with the Hokage and is formally assigned to Team Thirteen. Meanwhile, Uzumaki Sora and Hyūga Dan solemnly swear that they are up to no good.
- Once Chikara is acquainted with his new teammates, Arata reveals to the team they have been assigned a new mission: a C-rank mission to Shikkotsu Forest.
- The team heads out on their mission. During their journey through the Land of Fire, they come across an abandoned factory and camp out, eager to get out of the rain.
- After leaving the factory, Team Thirteen makes their way to the Land of Waves. On the ferry ride to the continent south of theirs, the team reflects on the sights and sounds of the island.
- Upon arriving to Shikkotsu Forest, an argument between Chikara and Minegumo leads to the Hyūga going off on his own and getting kidnapped. One team member, however, follows after Chikara and attempts to rescue him.
