- Keep in mind that these policies are ultimately guidelines. If it's found that a policy restricts something that the reason the policy was created didn't intend to restrict, then the policy should be changed.
This is the official Naruto Fanon Wiki Manual of Style. It is based on Narutopedia's own Manual of Style, since that is the site we imitate style-wise. This page also covers our policies and expectations on content within articles.
Required Forms
Forms are an essential part of the creating process here on Naruto Fanon Wiki. These forms can be used:
However, given that various issues may arise with the forms due to the UCP's incompatibility with the semantic search feature, infoboxes may be used instead of forms. Alternatives include:
- Template:Character as a replacement for the Character Form for general use. While it resembles the canon/semantic search form, it is an infobox with manual parameters as opposed to an automatic form. This infobox is recommended.
- Template:Kumogakure Character, Template:Konohagakure Character, Template:Kirigakure Character, Template:Iwagakure Character, Template:Sunagakure Character, Template:Samurai Character or Template:Missing-nin as a replacement for the Character Form. Note, you only need to use one of these infoboxes.
- Template:Team as a replacement for the Team Form.
- Template:Clan as a replacement for the Clan Form.
- Template:Item as a replacement for the Tools Form.
- Template:Kekkei Genkai as a replacement for the Kekkei Genkai Form.
- Template:Jutsu as a replacement for the Jutsu Form.
Personalized templates are allowed as well.
Section Order

- Part in the Story - Section container, the characters actions within the story would be here.
- Part I
- Some arc
- Part II
- Some other arc
- Part I
- Trivia - Trivia items. Organized in list format using * at the start of the line (Stylistically a space after that * would be nice.) Things not worthy of being in trivia include things such as: "That X is the first Y to do Z." or "That X is the only Y to do Z." etc.
- Quotes - Character quotes. The character shouting out a Jutsu name shouldn't be considered a quote though. Organized in the same way as Trivia.
- References - Just the ==References== section with a <references/> tag below it. To collect the tag info in the page. Individual bits of info should be tagged with specific citation other than just the general sources section.
Villages
- (main) - The beginning section with general intro. This is the one without a section name.
- History - Historical and background information on the village.
- Events - Major events that have taken place in the village since the present time.
- Landmarks - Important locations in the village.
- Clans - Shinobi clans that reside in the village.
- Trivia - Trivia items. Organized in list format using * at the start of the line (Stylistically a space after that * would be nice.) Things not worthy of being in trivia include things such as: "That X is the first Y to do Z." or "That X is the only Y to do Z." etc.
- References - If applicable.
- See also - If applicable.

- History - Historical and background information on the village.
- Events - Major events that have taken place in the village since the present time.
- Villages - Villages within that country.
- Landmarks - Important locations in the country.
Article Property
- When you create an article, you may place a Property tag on it, claiming it as your article.
- If more than one user owns the article (ie., Domestic Violence of Brothers: Sannoto Senju vs Raian Uchiha!), all involved users will place their property tag.
- Canon jutsu articles belong to the entire community. You cannot "own" a canon jutsu article, unless it has your username in the title, signifying it is a different version (ie., Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation (Ten Tails)).
- Custom Property Tags should not be much larger than the official property template for collaborative articles. Exceptions are made if the custom template is used for your own creation.
Writing Style
- Articles should be written in English.
- Articles for living characters should be written in present tense.
- Articles for deceased characters should be written in past tense.
- Articles should never be written in future tense.
- Articles should be written in an in-universe style, this includes calling characters by what they were called at this point in the story, and not refer to the reader or viewer when talking about events.
- Articles should be written in the third person.
- When listing information, and someone has been replaced by someone else in the plot, the person who was chronologically first should be listed first.
- Japanese translations should be done properly. Do not just slap two words together, and some random katakana/kanji and expect it to pass.
- Article names should be properly capitalized. Any article names without proper capitalization will be deleted.
- Word of Caution: Overcome the temptation to use Google translate, or Bing, for any Japanese translations as they are rarely, if ever, accurate. (See the "Outside Links" section below for proper English-Japanese translators).
- In the same light, do not mix English and Japanese names (ie., "Tony Uzumaki"). Not only do they not translate properly into katakana or kanji, it also makes your character look lazy and not well thought out.
Content
Character Articles
- Using the title of another character, either from the fanon or canon, is not acceptable unless the title has been used by multiple people.
- A kage title, or something such as "God of Shinobi", while it should not be spammed, is acceptable because multiple people have used it. "Yellow Flash", however, is not acceptable, because it is unique to a certain character.
- While characters can certainly take after canon characters, or be based on them, they cannot be carbon copies of them. If your character has the same history, appearance, personality, and abilities as a canon character, or any combination of the four (or very similar personality, appearance, history, and abilities), then you are in violation of this rule. We are a wiki that promotes originality.
- Using a character's likeness (such as is done on Ryun Uchiha's page) is not against the rules unless you are also copying other aspects of the character used. However, this should be done sparingly.
- In the creation of characters, refrain from being overly gory or sexual with page details. While characters do not have to be pacifistic puritans, it generally comes off as tacky and outside of the style of Naruto.
Jutsu Articles
- Do not create carbon copies of canon techniques just so that your character has another kekkei genkai's techniques. If your technique does the exact same thing a canon techniques does, it will be deleted on sight. That is to say, for an example, the Byakugan should not give the user the ability to use Kamui just because you desire such an ability.
- You can make techniques that are based on other techniques, but there should be obvious differences.
- Follow the template guidelines; if you cannot find proper Japanese kanji and romanji translations for your technique, then mark it as "unnamed".
Kekkei Genkai Articles
- Kekkei Genkai should, by no means, fully mimic others. The Byakugan cannot do what the Sharingan can, nor can the Sharingan see tenketsu like the Byakugan.
- While creating fan techniques for canon Kekkei Genkai is allowed, some abilities are forbidden.
- Creation of a Mangekyō Sharingan that automatically grants the user Sage Mode, Six Paths Sage Mode, Sage Transformation, or some sort of similar Sage-like ability is henceforth forbidden. This is not to say a Mangekyō Sharingan wielder can't get these abilities by other means; however, it will not be allowed through a specific dōjutsu ability.
- No character should be able to merge every chakra nature to be able to use Ice Release, Dust Release, and everything else that is a mixed nature. While being able to use more than one combined nature is fine, try to limit it to a logical amount.
- For example, Mei Terumī possesses both the Boil Release and the Lava Release, which share the Fire Release nature to connect them together. Another would be Ōnoki having both the Lava Release and Dust Release combined natures. Lava is made up of earth and fire, both of which make up Dust Release alongside wind.
- This is especially true in relation to making a Mangekyō Sharingan technique that can use every combined nature, which is completely disallowed. That is to say, a Mangekyō Sharingan technique should not give the user Ice Release, Lava Release, Dust Release, Wood Release, and so on all at the same time.
- Users ARE NOT to list kekkei genkai nature transformations as a "Unique Trait" (such as listing Ice Release as "Cryokinesis"). This will not be tolerated. Any user caught doing such will be asked to change it. If they don't change it within a given time frame, the page in question will be deleted.
- Characters, Ōtsutsuki or otherwise, are not allowed to have a multitude of different dōjutsu. If a character has the Byakugan and Rinnegan, they ARE NOT allowed to also possess the Sharingan and Tenseigan. As such, characters are limited to two different pairs of kekkei genkai dōjutsu. This keeps fanon characters from power stacking on eyes. If the eyes follow an evolution, such as the Sharingan to the Rinne Sharingan, leniency will be provided (however, do not make a habit of such characters).
- The Ketsuryūgan DOES NOT grant Blood Release. It manipulates blood by controlling the iron suspended within a liquid. Any article with the Ketsuryugan and Blood Release or any other blood-based bloodline will be inspected before a judgement is made on it.
- Character's aren't allowed to just learn how to expel chakra from all of the Tenketsu within their body. Canonically, only Hyuga Clan members have displayed this. While not impossible to learn how to expel character from other areas, users aren't allowed to list their characters as doing such unless it makes absolute sense in terms of the Naruto World.
Technology Articles
- With the rise of technology in Boruto, the many of the rules associated with the Kekkei Genkai Articles apply here. That is to say, technology should not be a means to mechanically recreate the Sharingan or recreate it with the properties of the Byakugan as well. While certain things could of course be accomplished similarly with a technologically-based eye, refrain from recreating specific dōjutsu.
- Just the same, technology should not be used as a workaround to make it so a singular character can access every combined nature.
Village Articles
- Naming villages after clans is unacceptable.
- Example: "Uchihagakure" isn't going to be happening.
WikiText Style
- Headers should be in the form == Header ==.
- Things like
chidori
andchidori
are pointless, onlychidori
should be used. - Don't bypass redirects using things like
Sasuke
make use of the redirect properly withSasuke
.
Common improper style changes
- Do not change "Pain" to "Pein", "Pain" is the correct name.
- Do not change "Nine-Tailed Demon Fox" or "Nine Tails" to "Kyūbi."
- Do not change "Hyūga," "Shippūden," or anything to a 'uu' such as "Hyuuga," or "Shippuuden."
- For "oo," "ou," "uu,' and "ii" we use macrons. Examples: ō, ī, ū.
- For the Sage Mode and its techniques, we use "Sage" instead of "Hermit."
Consequences
Violations of this policy are punishable. The following method should be followed for carrying out these consequences;
- First offense: Warning
- Second offense: Article deletion
- Third offense: 1 week block
- Fourth offense: 1 month block
- Fifth offense: 1 year block
- Further offense: Permanent block
