Phantom Projection Technique (幻映の術, Genei no Jutsu) is basic technique that relies on the conception of real illusions.

Overview[]

While this technique specifically is not well known or practiced, one of its many derived techniques is taught at nearly every Ninja Academy; the Clone Technique. Contrary to Genjutsu, this technique does not rely on the user influencing a target's cerebral nervous system to produce illusions. Rather, this technique simply allows the user to produce various illusions whether they be visual, audible, or olfactory through Yin chakra. It is said that this technique was developed during the early stages of the Warring States Period as a substitute for those who couldn't master Genjutsu.

While basic in nature, this technique is incredibly versatile and as such, entirely dependent on the user's application and attention to detail. When utilized by a novice, the technique may seem limited and useless in battle; as seen as many shinobi prefer tangible clones over the Clone Technique. However, when utilized by an experienced user, the applications are nearly limitless. The user can produce nearly any illusion through sound, image or scent. For example, an experienced user can compensate for the intangible nature of the Clone Technique by creating other illusions such a shadow based on the sun's position, the distinct smell of the user, and/or the the sound of the clone's footsteps.

Despite how versatile this technique may be, it does not change the fact the user cannot physically damage the opponent. For this reason, most would prefer to utilize Genjutsu as practitioners of the style can manipulate the target's system to simulate pain or other sensations.

Trivia.[]

  • This technique is C-rank for several reasons:
    • Firstly, the chakra usage is minimal as Academy Students are able to summon multiple clones of considerable detail without much effort.
    • Secondly, the technique is completely dependent on the user's attention to detail. Most shinobi should be able to perform this technique however, only a select few have mastered it.
    • Finally, this technique is not D-rank due to the fact the user decided to implement a three for one package deal (Illusions through visuals, scents and sounds) instead of making three different techniques of D-rank.
