Reina Uchiha (うちは怜奈, Uchiha Reina) is a Jōnin-class kunoichi of Konohagakure, an ex-ANBU captain, a member of the elite, renowned Uchiha clan, and one of the most powerful shinobi in the village, despite not having been born to parents of any note, as neither of them were ever able to awaken the Uchiha clan’s coveted dōjutsu. Nonetheless, in a twist of irony, her Sharingan and that of her brother became famous throughout the shinobi world for its visual clarity and hypnotic powers, and she gained renown as “Reina of the Sharingan” (写輪眼の怜奈, Sharingan no Reina). Reina’s ocular prowess was enough to forcibly carve her name into the long, storied history of the fabled Uchiha, earning her clan’s respect and admiration, as they could not deny her gifts and her talent as a kunoichi. Upon acquiring the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, she took her talents with her clan’s dōjutsu to levels only seen a handful of times throughout the clan’s history, ensuring that she would forever be a tale passed down by the Uchiha.
Not known just for her talent with the Sharingan, Reina is known as a very intelligent, capable, all-around kunoichi who possesses exceptional genjutsu prowess on top of her skill with the Body Flicker Technique; her talent with the latter is how she earned her nickname “Afterimage Reina” (残像の怜奈, Zanzō no Reina). With the Body Flicker Technique, she has pulled off such feats as annihilating an entire unit of enemies in the blink of an eye, something that was thought to only be possible using the Flying Thunder God Technique, and using it to flicker all the way across Konoha’s perimeter nearly instantaneously. She has pushed the boundaries of the Body Flicker to their outermost limits, becoming more skilled with it than even the famous Shisui Uchiha. As a genjutsu user, she has earned a fearsome reputation with her ability to effortlessly ensnare multiple targets at once and very easily resist their attempts to break her hold. Due to her excellence with ocular genjutsu, she has earned another moniker: “Hypnotic Eye Reina” (催眠眼の怜奈, Saimingan no Reina).
Background[]
"Listen, you have to understand...my sister didn’t exactly have it easy when we were growing up. Our parents sucked, but they were worse to her than they were to me. That’s why she’s so brusque, she’s used to standing up for herself." |
Reina’s childhood was not exactly the happiest. She was born to a pair of Uchiha who existed on the bottom rungs of the clan’s unofficial hierarchy, having not even been able to awaken the Sharingan. Her parents were ultra-conservative in mindset, embracing traditionalist views on what it meant to be Uchiha and on life in general. They were rigid in how they raised her and her brother, Tatsuo. Reina grew up being taught that as a girl, her place was ultimately not to become an elite ninja, but to become a housewife, something that she would come to quite bitterly resent them for. She had no desire, even as a child, to exist solely for a domestic lifestyle. Not exactly being the social type, until she joined the Academy, Reina’s only friend as a child was her older brother.
Indeed, Tatsuo was the only good thing about her childhood. Reina spent most of her time training alongside her brother, occasionally under their parents’ tutelage, learning from him and with him. This, however, eventually bred a one-sided competitive relationship between the two siblings, as Reina began to quickly understand that her brother was a special talent as a shinobi. Being younger and not quite as naturally gifted, Reina started to feel left behind, and this served as motivation for her when she entered the Academy. As a student, she quickly rose to the top of her class, having dedicated herself to studying and training harder than any of her peers. For the most part, she succeeded at this, developing very swiftly and drawing comparisons to her brother’s skill and potential.
She began to make friends once she joined the Academy, particularly a member of the Sarutobi clan, a girl named Aika, and another girl named Yumi Amada, who was her fiercest competitor for the ‘top student’ position in their class. Finally having friends allowed Reina to open up and become more comfortable socializing. While she was no social butterfly, she began to have little trouble interacting with people and developed self-confidence that would carry over into her Genin years. When she graduated from the Academy, Reina was placed on a traditional three-man squad, overseen by a Jōnin, that included her friend Yumi. For around the next year, things were fine as she adjusted to her new team and her duties as a Genin.
On one mission, a supply escort mission, Reina was separated from her teammates when she chose to pursue a cell of rogue shinobi that assaulted them, in order to allow the others time to put distance between themselves and the assailants. This proved to be a mistake, as Reina was quickly overpowered and captured, tortured, and sexually assaulted. Her awakening of the Sharingan allowed her to escape, but she has never been the same since that awful, traumatic incident. Once she took some time to recover from the horrors of that mission, Reina rejoined her team and eventually earned promotion to Chūnin. As a Chūnin, she joined the ANBU, having earned recognition as one of Konoha’s finest young ninja.
Personality[]
"I never exactly claimed to be nice, you know. I’m not sure why you’re suffering under the delusion that I care about being a people-pleaser." |
Grace. Poise. Confidence. Reina Uchiha possesses these qualities in spades, having developed them over a lifetime of struggling to gain recognition. If her brother is the light and warmth radiating from a crackling flame, she is the shadow that the fire casts upon the wall, in more ways than one. Their parents made it evident that Tatsuo, the naturally gifted sibling, was their priority throughout their childhoods. As a result, she often felt obligated to live up to her older brother’s achievements if she wanted to be noticed by anyone, even their parents. Growing up, her brother would continually outpace her in their respective developments, mastering their clan’s coming-of-age technique a full three years before she was able to do so at the age of eight. When she entered the Academy a year after her brother did, all she heard was teachers and students endlessly comparing the two of them, usually praising Tatsuo far more than they ever bothered to praise her. It pushed her to work harder and harder to come into her own in hopes of surpassing her brother and earning the same respect for her abilities that he always got. The chip on Reina’s shoulder led her to develop a highly competitive personality, not just with her brother but with everyone around her. Reina turned everything into a competition as a child, deciding that if everyone wanted to overlook her in favor of Tatsuo, she would push herself to be better than everyone, especially him, at everything.
Her single-minded pursuit of excellence, her diligence towards her studies, and her underrated natural abilities propelled her to star student status in the Academy. While her brother was more gifted, she was far more dedicated, and it showed, considering how quickly she grew as a kunoichi. For the first time, people were finally starting to see her as more than just Tatsuo’s younger sister, more than the daughter of a pair of Uchiha that existed on the bottom of the clan’s hierarchical pyramid. However, despite the strides she made in the Academy, her parents still overlooked her in favor of Tatsuo. They believed that Tatsuo’s more significant potential would make their family relevant within the Uchiha clan, something for which the siblings’ father, in particular, was desperate. It was also clear that their parents didn’t genuinely support Reina’s ambition to be a powerful, renowned kunoichi. In their eyes, Reina’s place as a girl was to advance only so far in the ranks and give up the ninja lifestyle to become a housewife and eventually carry on the Uchiha bloodline. As the family’s male child, Tatsuo’s place was to earn glory and respect for the Uchiha name as an elite shinobi. Her parents’ narrow-minded view of her purpose for existing caused her to withdraw from them, and in an ironic twist of fate, it also brought her closer to the brother whose shadow immersed her. While their parents didn’t accept her future goals, Tatsuo did, repeatedly vocally defending her and never wavering in his support for Reina, something which made her genuinely appreciate him.
While her relationship with Tatsuo would be persistently competitive, it would also come to be one built on mutual respect, love, and trust during her later Academy years. Her brother became one of her closest friends, not that she had many, of course. Reina preferred and still prefers quality over quantity when it comes to friends, keeping her circle small and only made up of people she knows she can trust. While nowhere near as suspicious of others as her and Tatsuo’s younger brother figure, Kian, Reina has always implicitly understood that people don’t always have the best intentions, thanks to her strained, fractured relationship with her parents. Over her Academy years, she formed a close friendship (and rivalry) with a classmate named Yumi Yamada, a kunoichi of no relevant bloodline that possessed talent nonetheless. Upon graduation, Yumi would end up assigned to the same three-person squadron as Reina, much to both their delight. Unlike a significant number of her fellow Uchiha, Reina would prove to be an excellent, selfless, and willing teammate, able to keep both perspective and a level head. Her readiness to cooperate and embrace working as part of a unit was impressive, especially for someone as competitive as she.
During her time as a Genin, Reina would grow significantly not just as a kunoichi, but as a person. Freshly graduated, she had no real concept of what it meant to be a kunoichi. Sacrifice, honor, and duty were just words to her at first. Reina was headstrong, naïve, convinced that the Uchiha’s name and blood combined with her penchant for hard work was enough, that she was just uniquely suited to being a ninja. Her performance on missions proved her right, at first. Of course, her team’s first assignments were simple, manageable tasks that only gradually got more difficult. These missions built her confidence up, and Reina carried herself with her clan’s typical pride. While she wasn’t the most talkative, outgoing, expressive girl, she was self-assured and had no shortage of belief in herself. Her successes and those of her team made her cocky; however, a particular incident on one of their missions permanently changed Reina. Finding herself separated from her squad due to her own misstep, she was captured and subjected to physical and psychological torture via genjutsu, as well as sexual assault. The brutal nature of the experience caused Reina’s Sharingan to awaken, allowing her to resist her captors’ genjutsu and eventually break free.
Apart from triggering the emergence of her clan’s bloodline, that mission fundamentally changed Reina. She became a far more somber, pragmatic person, losing the quiet joyfulness that had exuded from her since early childhood. It forced her to accept the ninja world’s reality and dark side, and she responded by developing a more serious, guarded, critical nature. Reina’s hard-headed attitude softened significantly, and she became more self-deprecating and willing to listen to advice. She also adopted a penchant for being somewhat sarcastic and cynical, turning into a bonafide pessimist. Even her teammates, her closest friends, noted that she wasn’t exactly a ray of sunshine; not that she had been before the incident, per se, but she had been far cheerier and had at least been one to smile and laugh frequently. After the horror of the capture and assault, Reina would hardly ever smile, with laughter being even rarer. It was apparent to those closest to her that she was never the same after living through that nightmare. Due to the anguish it caused her, she came to understand how it felt to be in the clutches of her clan’s curse, but her indomitable willpower and stubborn survivor’s mentality kept it mostly in check. Reina never permitted her darkness to rule her, instead relegating it to the deepest recesses of her conscience, existing only as the most subtle, fleeting whispers.
Even though she suffered greatly due to her trauma, Reina found solace in her teammates and teacher. She discovered that she believed that her village and its inhabitants were worth suffering for, and to her, that was the whole point of being a ninja. Ninja were those who endured the worst hardships and made the most difficult decisions to protect their village and those they held dear. In her own way, the young Uchiha enthusiastically embodied the Will of Fire. Reina came to value the village above even the Uchiha clan, an ideal that pushed her into even greater conflict with her parents, who enthusiastically supported the successor of Seto Uchiha and believed in the clan’s old, warlike ways. To them, nothing was more important than the Uchiha clan and its status and power. Ever the rebel, Reina began to distance herself from them in earnest, disgusted by their values. Her inner darkness began to focus itself on them, the objects of her resentment and bitterness. She truly hated them, considering them short-sighted, judgmental, insecure morons who belonged, with the new clan leader, to a bygone era. The open defiance that Reina and her brother exhibited towards Sakushi led to their parents and the majority of the rest of the Uchiha clan branding them a pair of mavericks, not that this fazed either of them. His sense of right and wrong fueled her brother, and to an extent, the same was true of her. Part of Reina just enjoyed an opportunity to stick it to her parents, prove that she wasn’t like them and never would be.
Promotion to the rank of Chūnin came easily for Reina. She thoroughly impressed her peers and Konoha’s higher level ninja with her performance in the exams and the rapid maturity as a person that she displayed. Finally, they recognized her as a prodigy of the Uchiha clan and a fiercely loyal Konoha kunoichi. Her parents, however, refused to extend that same recognition to her and made it a point to register their disapproval of her even putting her name forth for the exam, let alone celebrate her promotion. They were especially displeased when she accepted a position within Konoha’s prestigious ANBU Black Ops, which she did partly to spite them. Reina adapted well to her new role as a member of ANBU, learning to compartmentalize her emotions, which helped her figure out how to keep her dark side in check. She also developed a bit of a cold, ruthless streak, which she became known for within the organization. Her leadership skills also matured quite rapidly, and none of the squads she has led have ever once had a fatality under her command. Around this time, she also became aware of her sexual orientation and feelings for one of her closest childhood friends, Aika Sarutobi. Feeling the pressure of her parents’ expectation that she marry and have children, she hid this revelation from everyone: Tatsuo, her other friends, her sensei. Over time, however, this unrequited love would begin to cause her a lot of heartache. Reina never acknowledged her feelings; the result was Aika ending up in a serious, committed relationship with a young shinobi from their graduating class around the time they turned sixteen. As she watched her best friend fall for and find happiness with someone else, a certain bitterness settled in along with melancholy. She developed a very negative view of love and relationships, deciding she was content not to pursue either.
After about two years in the ANBU, Reina took on an assignment that reunited her with her old teammates. When all hell broke loose, Akari was placed under a possession technique and forced to fight Reina, who in turn had no choice other than to kill her best friend to ensure not only the success of the mission but the safety of the rest of the squad. For weeks after Akari’s death, Reina struggled with a severe episode of depression, going so far as to consider giving up being a ninja until Tatsuo talked her out of doing so. Guilt over being the one to kill Akari would never cease to plague her, even though she was able to move past it enough to resume her duties as a kunoichi. More than ever, Reina found herself grappling with the hatred that she typically controlled so well. She found herself resenting the life of a ninja, herself. Reina became colder and more distant than ever, keeping even the people she cared the most about at a distance and choosing to spend the majority of her free time alone with her thoughts. Gone was the last bit of warmth she’d clung to, buried simultaneously with her best friend. She became a woman of even fewer words, hardly speaking unless directly spoken to, and she became a lot ruder and more sarcastic when she did speak.
When Sakushi Uchiha was supplanted and exposed as a conniving murderer by her younger brother figure, Kian, Reina stepped up along with Tatsuo to support him as the Uchiha clan’s leader. Both siblings became pillars for the clan, helping to hold it up and protect its structural integrity. It was largely due to the mixture of fear and respect that Reina’s skills and attitude commanded from her clansmen that the Uchiha fell in line and accepted new leadership. Even Kian would admit that had it not been for Reina’s open support, he might have faced numerous challenges to his claim to leadership and may have even had to deal with an open revolt. She was instrumental in securing the cooperation of the clan’s elders, as well, pragmatically pointing out that Kian’s actions had not only brought closure to the matter of Seto Uchiha’s death, but they had also pulled the Uchiha back from the brink of another massacre. She argued that not backing him could only end in massive bloodshed if Sakushi’s replacement embraced his plans and ideals. With the clan’s power struggle resolved, Reina focused on her ANBU duties and serving as a confidante and advisor for Kian. The Uchiha clan began to look up to Reina, acknowledging that despite her frosty, aloof demeanor, she was loyal to the clan and had its best interests in mind. For the first time, they truly embraced her, instead of looking down on her or being slightly afraid of her.
During the Great Shinobi Survival War, Reina was assigned to the First Division, along with Tatsuo and Kian. Her bravery, selflessness, and incredible skill as a kunoichi earned her international recognition, significantly raising her profile. She went from a notorious operative of Konoha to a celebrated war heroine. The horrors of the war ended up affecting her so adversely that she promptly chose to leave the ANBU behind when the war was over, instead choosing to work as a regular duty Jōnin. After all the trauma she endured in her life before the war, she couldn’t handle more, and the death and destruction she witnessed took a massive toll on her. On the other hand, she also couldn’t bring herself to walk away from being a kunoichi, not after how hard she’d worked and how much she’d been through to reach her current heights as one of the ninja’s world’s most renowned individuals.
Reina proved herself to be wholly unique among the Uchiha. Shrouded by darkness, plagued with anger, pain, and depression, she could have very easily given in and succumbed to it all, but she didn’t. Instead of letting that darkness eat away at her, Reina chose to embrace it and accept that no matter what, it would always be part of who she was. Fighting it only made her feel more unstable and fearing it would lead to her completely losing herself, so eventually, she stopped fighting it, and she sure as hell didn’t fear it. With this understanding, her internal struggle faded over time. Reina can be called many things: broody, sarcastic, cold, aloof, ruthless, calculating; evil, lost, and irredeemable are not among those adjectives. At her core, Reina is not unfeeling; in fact, quite the opposite is true: she feels everything very deeply. Emotions for her are quite powerful and compelling, which has caused her much suffering. While she loves profoundly and feels joy quite poignantly when she can feel it, she also feels the sting of agony and the weight of loss more than most. Through everything, though, she retains her sense of loyalty, duty, and compassion (even if she would never admit being a compassionate person). She is a young woman that has just enough light in her to give her clarity and let her see even in the dark.
Appearance[]
Reina very much resembles her clansmen, as she possesses the hallmark physical traits of an Uchiha: cold, black eyes, and hair to match. She is considered an extremely beautiful young woman, especially by people around her own age. Amongst the Uchiha, she is said to look quite a lot like her mother, though she has her father’s eyes and nose. Her cheekbones are high and hollow, quite pronounced, her jawline is soft and rounded, and her eyebrows are thin and gently angled. At the beginning of Part I, her spiky, midnight black locks were roughly shoulder-length. Reina is exceptionally vain when it comes to her hair, a quirk that she readily confesses to; it is the aspect of her appearance in which she takes the most pride. When she joined ANBU, however, she decided to start growing her hair out. By the end of Part I and all the way through Part II, her hair is significantly longer, reaching down almost to her lower back. Her bangs are parted so that they tend to cover the left side of her face, should she allow them to.
By all accounts, Reina’s eyes are colder than that of most other Uchiha, lacking warmth or any sign of life. They are as piercing as steel, and more than one person has described the sensation of being seen right through when Reina meets their gaze. Her eyes are almond shaped, heavily lidded, and somewhat deep set, accentuating her face with a somewhat haughty expression at all times, even if she is not exactly cognizant of it. Naturally, her irides are onyx in color, and given their lack of any expression, they are far more reminiscent of the actual stone than human irides. One can look into Reina’s eyes and tell instantly that she has suffered much for her young age, and that she is, as a result, wise beyond her years. Her lips are of a full shape and a lighter hue, and like her eyes, they are rarely reflective of any emotion. While they usually betray no hint of a smile, they also usually bear no sign of a smirk or a frown, either, contributing to her reputation for having the best ‘resting bitch face’ in Konoha.
Her skin is very pale and remarkably smooth and clear, free of blemishes and of a porcelain quality; not that that is surprising, given her Uchiha heritage. Reina’s skin tone clashes noticeably with her dark hair and eyes, but rather than make her look gaunt, this actually adds to her natural beauty. As a kunoichi, she is in excellent physical shape and has a very lean, slender, albeit extremely toned, figure. While she does possess a naturally slender frame, her musculature is very well-defined. Reina is of average height for a woman, but her lack of exceptional stature or bulk does not make her any less intimidating. She has excellent, if a little rigid, posture and an air of supreme confidence and shrewdness about her. Combined with her lack of general expressiveness, it is enough for others to instantly note her as someone not to be crossed. Indeed, Reina herself does nothing to discourage this perception of her, and she is known as the most imposing member of the Uchiha clan.
At the start of Part I, Reina would eschew her clan’s typical clothing that features high-collared shirts in favor of her own style. She would wear a long-sleeved, mesh wire shirt underneath a white, collarless jacket. Her jacket was a button-up, though she would usually only button it up three-fourths of the way down for enhanced ease of movement. On either side, her jacket had slits that ran up to just above her hips. The back of her jacket was emblazoned with the Uchiha clan’s notorious fan crest, the one way in which she was willing to adhere to tradition with her attire. Reina wore a pair of form-fitting black shorts underneath her mesh shirt-jacket combination, and on her right thigh, she wore a kunai holster. She also favored wearing a pair of nearly thigh-high black leg sleeves, as well as a pair of low-cut black zori, or traditional ninja sandals. Her forehead protector was worn on a black cloth, and she wore a pair of long, black fingerless gloves. Reina also wore a strap across her torso, meant for carrying her tantō sheath.
When Reina joined the ANBU, she was given the organization’s signature spiral tattoo on her left shoulder in black ink, which is the only tattoo that she has. She was also issued the standard Black Ops uniform, consisting of a simple black, sleeveless, high-neck shirt with matching form-fitting black pants, as well as the typical grey flak jacket. Like other ANBU, she wore long, black gloves that reached almost all the way up her biceps and metal arm guards, as well as a pair of black, high-cut shinobi sandals. Occasionally, she would wear a black, white, or grey hooded cloak over her ANBU uniform. As is the organization’s tradition, she also had a porcelain mask; hers has black markings and is fashioned to resemble a panther. Reina, when off-duty, donned casual clothes consisting of a lavender shirt underneath a darker purple, high-collared, long-sleeved, crop-top shirt bearing the Uchiha clan crest, and a pair of form-fitting black shorts. She retained the leg sleeves, sandals, kunai holster, and headband from her previous outfit.
During Part II, Reina, no longer part of the ANBU, no longer wears its uniform. Instead, she wears a skin-tight, sleeveless black jumpsuit that exposes the upper portion of her back and cuts off around her upper thighs. The jumpsuit enables a greater range of motion, supporting her fighting style, which revolves around her mastery of the Body Flicker Technique. Over her jumpsuit, Reina tends to wear a high-collared, calf-length greyish-blue coat, featuring a zipper, a white belt around the waist, and the Uchiha clan crest on the back, to which she keeps her chokutō strapped. She also wears a pair of bicep-length, black fingerless gloves, and the same nearly thigh-high black leg sleeves. Reina continues to wear the same black-clothed Konoha forehead protector and low-cut black sandals. During the Great Shinobi Survival War, Reina opts not to wear her usual garments but instead adopts the standard Konoha shinobi uniform, along with the rest of Konoha’s combatants.
Abilities[]
Despite being overshadowed by her older brother throughout her childhood, Reina’s skills have earned her recognition as a generational talent even among the highly gifted Uchiha clan. She is a kunoichi with exceptional versatility, possessing talent in all three fundamental ninja arts: ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu. Reina is particularly well-versed in chakra control and manipulation basics and the most straightforward ninja techniques and skills. Her abilities are such that she proved herself capable and rose through the ranks at an accelerated pace, earning promotion to Chūnin at 13 and being made a Jōnin at 16. Konoha’s ANBU officially recruited her as soon as she made Chūnin, acknowledging her as one of the village’s best ninja. In time, the organization came to trust her enough to make her a squad commander, effectively singling her out as an elite among elites. Working on and off with Black Ops, Reina’s successes on her less covert missions would establish her name and reputation throughout the ninja world, her name alone capable of invoking fear.
Chakra and Physical Prowess[]
Reina’s Uchiha lineage gifted her massive reserves of sublimely powerful chakra, second only in her clan to Kian, equaled only by her older brother Tatsuo in terms of sheer volume. Her chakra is cold, dark, dense enough to weigh down an atmosphere. One doesn’t have to be an adept sensor-type to feel its gravity; its mere presence is almost crushing to those of a weak chakra constitution. According to Sora Uzumaki, Reina’s chakra is among the strongest he has ever encountered, stating that in power and quality, it may even rival that of Kian Uchiha and himself. An obsessively hard worker who thrives off of endless repetition until she has perfected whatever she is working on, Reina’s skill at chakra control is exceptionally refined. She is so talented at manipulating her chakra that she could have been a medic had she chosen to be. Instead, Reina’s incredible genjutsu prowess is reflective of her feats of chakra control. Her efficiency at wielding her chakra is excellent; nearly perfect, truthfully, which enables her to wield even her most draining techniques repeatedly in rapid succession without getting exhausted. It also allows her to turn simple, basic techniques like the Body Flicker Technique into deadly weapons. With her vast chakra reserves, her precision at controlling said chakra enables her to fight at a high level for hours and hours on end, even pushing into entire days. Furthermore, Reina is almost imperceptibly swift at weaving hand seals; her master has noted that only another Uchiha, one blessed with Sharingan, could hope to read through her hand movements. She is even capable of weaving seals with one hand instead of using both.
Acrobatic, light on her feet, and incredibly tenacious, Reina is only outdone at pure taijutsu skill within the Uchiha clan by her brother. Even when relying solely on her own speed without using the Body Flicker Technique, she is among the fastest ninja in Konoha. With it, her speed is on par with the Flying Thunder God Technique, Lightning Release Armor, Swift Release, etc. Reina was blessed with incredible, blazing-fast natural reflexes and an equally impressive reaction time; both of these attributes can be augmented considerably by the use of the Sharingan. Her physical strength is exceptional even without being enhanced by velocity and acceleration, allowing her to bring larger opponents down with brute force alone. With her enhanced strength, she can generate force roughly equal to Chakra Enhanced Strength with speed-generated kinetic energy alone. She is more than capable of holding her own against multiple opponents in hand-to-hand combat with ease. With her natural speed, agility, and reflexes, the use of the Body Flicker Technique in hand-to-hand combat makes Reina practically untouchable, able to evade strikes at will.
Reina’s taijutsu style is particularly aggressive and fast-paced, as if she were a human blitzkrieg. Much like the majority of the Uchiha clan, she utilizes a very freeform, improvisation-heavy style. She takes full advantage of her ridiculous athleticism and the Sharingan’s predictive abilities to attack her foe(s) relentlessly, continually adjusting in the middle of a fight to best counter her adversary’s movements. Her hand-to-combat approach serves to keep an opponent perpetually off-balance and completely outclassed when it comes to speed, disorienting them and not giving them time enough even to wield hand seals. Able to maneuver easily in midair, Reina has no issue unleashing aerial physical attacks on her opponents, as well. Nimble and agile, she is a capable counter-striker, able to effortlessly dodge an opponent’s fist and punish them with a barrage of her own.
Ninjutsu[]
A skillful wielder of ninjutsu, Reina is known for her mastery of the Uchiha clan’s Fire Release techniques and her effortless command over the most fundamental ninjutsu skills taught in the Academy. Her talent at the different ninjutsu branches puts her on a genuine prodigy level, as she has mastered basic ninjutsu, at least one nature transformation (to an impressive degree), bukijutsu, and kenjutsu. While her repertoire is not the most extensive or even the flashiest, every technique in her arsenal is one that she has mastered to the highest possible extent. Reina embodies the saying “quality over quantity.” Her fighting style is fast-paced, dynamic, and incredibly fluid, incorporating Fire Release and her blade. As is the case with many astute ninja, she prefers to do more with less, often purposely avoiding expending chakra when she can and using as little of her repertoire as possible. Due to her years of serving in Konoha’s ANBU, Reina is particularly well-versed in stealth, infiltration, and assassination techniques.
Her signature skill, much in the vein of the famous Shisui Uchiha, is the Body Flicker Technique. She can use it to vanish silently, leaving not a single trace of her presence or indication of her destination. With the Body Flicker, her enhanced mobility and velocity are so excellent that she can leave behind tangible afterimages that can move undetected even by talented sensors. These afterimages are a significant component of her fighting style, as their tangibility means that she can use them to attack her opponents. Her afterimages also serve as a useful diversionary tactic, much in the way a ninja would utilize a standard clone technique. She uses her afterimages quite cleverly in combat to throw her opponents off, slowing their reaction times down due to hesitation and creating openings for herself. Reina’s afterimages are practically indistinguishable from the genuine article. As they are not clones but literal, tangible imprints of herself generated by incredible velocity, their chakra signature is the same as hers, and they possess no unique qualities. The afterimages’ cloaking effect is very similar to how the Shadow Clone Technique produces flesh and blood clones that one cannot discern from the user, even by dōjutsu. Her travel range with the Body Flicker is immense, far, far greater than that of the average user; she can traverse rather large distances instantaneously by utilizing the technique, “flickering” from one end of Konoha to the other in the blink of an eye, for example. Due to the excessive number of hours Reina has put into training with the technique and her natural knack for chakra control, the amount of chakra it takes for her to use the Body Flicker across short distances is less than negligible. However, it does increase ever so slightly as the travel distance increases. Furthermore, she can also use the Body Flicker Technique without performing the ‘tiger’ hand seal.
Reina’s applications for the technique don’t stop at just superhuman speed and afterimage generation, as she is one who has pushed the boundaries of the Body Flicker Technique to the absolute maximum. The control that she exerts over the Body Flicker is such that she can use it to create a motion paradox, her body acting as if it is in motion even though it is supposedly not. Essentially, to make this paradox of motion, Reina moves at a breakneck speed generated by the Body Flicker Technique while moving at a slower speed, which is multiplied to the higher speed. What results is the optical illusion that she is standing still, while in actuality, she is continually in motion. Even the most gifted wielders of the Sharingan or the Byakugan have extreme difficulty seeing through this; the average ninja has no chance whatsoever of doing so. Her ability to create these motion paradoxes is one of the most useful evasive maneuvers in existence. However, this elusive application of the Body Flicker, while extremely useful and capable of completely disorienting a foe, is not entirely perfect. For example, if Reina were facing forward and the motion she generates is also going forward, a frontal attack could still connect since it would be directly in the path of her movement; this is true of any direction she moves in, and it is the one main weakness of this usage of Body Flicker: all one has to do is aim a strike that lands within her movement path. However, this is easier said than done since Reina often changes directions, and there is no surefire way to ascertain which direction she is moving in. Now suppose Reina is in forward motion despite appearing to be stationary, and an opponent strikes from either of her sides. In that case, the attack or projectile will miss, appearing to ‘phase’ right through her as if she wasn’t there because she is technically moving. An attack from behind would likely meet the same fate, especially in the case of a projectile, as it could lose momentum too soon and not collide with Reina.
The creation of motion paradoxes, while a significant talent of Reina’s, is not her only means of achieving intangibility or something that looks like it. She can take it one step further, entering into a state of true intangibility that allows her to pass through solid objects. Not only do projectiles, physical strikes, and chakra-based attacks phase through her while in this state, she can also do things such as walking through walls. Reina does this by using the Body Flicker Technique to apply extreme speeds to her body down to the molecular level, resonating and creating the effect of motion even if she may not be moving; this causes molecular oscillation. This molecular oscillation means that the molecules constituting her body are vibrating at such an insanely high frequency that it creates intangibility. Her control over her intangibility is considerable. Reina can make her entire body intangible or isolate specific portions of her body to render intangible if she wishes, opening up a litany of possibilities for counterattacks, especially in close-combat situations. She can also dictate the length of time for which she is intangible, tricking opponents into thinking her intangibility only lasts for specific intervals to draw them into close combat.
With the sort of speeds that Reina achieves via the Body Flicker Technique, she can reach a point where she exhibits the ability to move in multiple directions. Multi-directional movement is a phenomenon wherein the user can achieve feats of motion that are considered otherwise impossible. Reina can move in numerous directions with multi-directional movement at once, not limited to one angle or even one type of motion. For example, she can simultaneously move vertically and horizontally and move at unnatural angles; in short, she can do things that others can only pull off as feats of cloning or teleportation. It allows her to move in midair effortlessly, and she exhibits hyper-maneuverability. Her multi-directional movement ability is a logical conclusion from its starting point, which is unrestricted movement. Essentially, Reina achieves such velocity that the laws of physics break before her speed, allowing her to move on any surface as if it was smooth, flat, and solid without any regard to concepts like inertia. There is simply no way to bind or restrict her movement. She is not even subject to the drawbacks of rapid acceleration, including difficulty breathing, air resistance, dynamic shock, etc. Reina’s hyper-maneuverability is a feat of sheer control over her speed and movements, in conjunction with her Sharingan-enhanced reflexes and coordination. She can move at full speed, pull off acrobatic/parkour maneuvers, and fight even in the most cramped environments.
Due to the amount of control she possesses over her movements while using the Body Flicker Technique, Reina is a hyper-acceleration practitioner. She can change directions, accelerate, and decelerate in less than a second. Courtesy of the Sharingan’s visual acuity, she can accomplish this rapid change in velocity or direction (or both) with little impact on her vision, allowing her to see normally both at high speeds and at high rate acceleration/deceleration. Reina can also take advantage of accelerating superhuman speeds via the Body Flicker by transferring the excess kinetic energy generated by lightning-fast acceleration into augmented strength. As force is simply the product of mass times acceleration, it flows logically that her incredible acceleration rates would lend themselves to enhanced physical strength, should she choose to lash out at an opponent while accelerating. Her speed-enhanced strength is roughly par with Chakra Enhanced Strength, drawing comparisons to the likes of Tsunade and Sakura Haruno and many times greater than her baseline. The brute force that Reina can generate with this enhanced physical prowess is enough to shatter boulders, leave craters in the ground, kill a person with one strike, and so on.
Bukijutsu[]
On brand for a prestigious Uchiha clan member, Reina is exceptionally skillful at wielding an assortment of different weapons and ninja tools. Shuriken is the weapon that she is most talented at handling. With shuriken, Reina can accurately hit targets, even moving targets, from a variety of different angles; she can even mentally calculate angles of deflection, which enables her to use one projectile weapon (a kunai, for example, or another shuriken) to alter both projectiles’ trajectories in midair. Her accuracy with kunai is just as impressive. Reina’s gift with projectile weapons is so great that she can easily angle shuriken or kunai into an opponent’s blind spot. Her throwing speed with projectile weapons is so high that it is considered fast enough to neutralize the advantage of techniques like Summoning: Lightning Flash Blade Creation. Melee weapons are also part of her repertoire. Reina is skilled with various blades, staffs, gunbai, kusarigama, and so on. Her melee weaponry talent is matched only by a few, given her blend of speed, strength, agility, and Sharingan-enhanced coordination and reflexes. While she has favored a sword or short blade since childhood as her primary melee weapon of choice, she has also been known to wield a kunai or a kama.
Kenjutsu[]
From childhood, Reina has been taught how to wield various types of swords and short blades, and is thus well-learned in the art of Konoha's style of kenjutsu. She is quite lethally skilled with blades, favoring the use of a tantō through Part I, before eventually eschewing it in favor of a chokutō. Reina’s natural lightness on her feet, abnormally quick reflexes, and her exceptional dexterity make her uniquely suited to swordsmanship; this becomes especially true when she uses the Sharingan in conjunction with her knack for blades. Lighter blades are easier for to her handle, hence why she favors blades like the tantō and the chokutō. As Reina is able to easily wield a blade in either hand without losing any proficiency, she is also quite skilled at wielding two blades at once, if she chooses to, which is a rare mark of mastery amongst kenjutsu users. Her footwork is incredibly refined and fluid, her form near-perfect. Reina is more than capable of easily cutting down multiple targets simultaneously, and doing so with a remarkable swiftness and grace.
She can also use her blade defensively, intercepting incoming strikes from an opponent's blade, repelling projectiles, cutting off physical attacks, etc. Indeed, she can hold her own against even very skilled swordsmen; the only person who has ever bested her at the use of a blade is Kian, whose unique, samurai-influenced style of kenjutsu is much harder for her to defend against than more defined styles. Reina can wield her blade in the traditional manner or wield it backhanded, and she can swap between the two stances very easily, even in the middle of combat, allowing her to throw off opponents and catch them off guard for a quick strike. Her own style is primarily counterattacking, using her swordsmanship skills to punish foes who rush in and attack her without thinking, exploiting openings, getting under an enemy's guard, etc. When Reina decides she is fighting to kill, however, she will use her blade to its fullest extent in combination with her appalling speed to slice them to ribbons before they can even begin to process what is unfolding.
Perhaps the aspect of her swordsmanship that speaks the most to Reina's mastery of a blade is her ability to wield a variety of different blades, each with a different weight. It doesn’t matter if she is wielding her favored tantō or chokutō, a wakizashi, a katana, a nodachi, an ōdachi, and so on; she can maximize the blade's potential and wield it with little to no drop-off in skill, something that only the best kenjutsu masters are capable of pulling off. Reina can even adapt her style to the blade that she is wielding and its weight, and she can wield two blades off differing weights, as well. Ninkenjutsu is part of her repertoire, as well; Reina can flow chakra through her blade to increase its cutting power, and with some minor conscious effort on her part, she can apply her fire nature transformation to her blade, coating it thoroughly in flames that she can use to either viciously sear her opponents as she cuts into their flesh or as projectiles discharged from the blade.
Nature Transformation[]
Like a true member of the Uchiha clan, Reina possesses an elemental affinity for fire and has been trained in its use since childhood, having mastered the clan's coming-of-age technique at only eight years old. While not as gifted, perhaps, as her brother at the use of Fire Release, Reina nonetheless possesses a great degree of talent with the element. Her flames burn more than hot enough to overcome even powerful Water Release techniques, rapidly boiling them until they are nothing but vapor and still retaining enough power and shape to be effective. Reina’s chakra control, when it comes to wielding Fire Release, is superb, allowing her to use Fire Release to its fullest extent with perfect efficiency. She can execute high-level Fire Release ninjutsu with minimal exertion on her part, even going so far as to continually use multiple Fire Release techniques in succession with little drain on her chakra reserves.
Reina can create Fire Release techniques on varying scales, a testament to her control over the element. Her usage of the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique can range from medium-sized fireballs to massive, raging blazes that take multiple highly-skilled Water Release users to combat and extinguish. Naturally, she can use the full repertoire of the Uchiha clan's most standard fire ninjutsu, as well, being capable of such feats as guiding her flames along the length of wire strings, bombard a target(s) with rapidly formed miniature fireballs, coat her shuriken in flames, or even create a barrage of dragon-shaped fireballs. All in all, she is an extremely skilled and versatile Fire Release user who has an excellent grasp on the fundamentals of the element and can execute them flawlessly, a true credit to her Uchiha heritage. Amongst her clan, only her brother is considered to be more adept at Fire Release than Reina; very high praise, considering Tatsuo's legendary fire prowess.
Similar to her brother, Reina was born with a genetic defect in her chakra coils that makes it impossible for her to effectively utilize any nature transformation other than her fire affinity. Both siblings were discovered to have this quirk in their chakra network during their time in the Academy, when they were practicing nature transformation. While most students could at least manage weak versions of two elements, Reina and her brother were both only capable of manifesting fire. Tatsuo decided to make up for this deficiency by embracing Fire Release as his main specialty and made it the basis of his fighting style, while Reina adapted by choosing to master the fundamentals of chakra control and ninjutsu to the highest possible degree. Her lack of skill with any element but fire contributed to her incredible, unmatched skill with the Body Flicker Technique, thus forming the basis of her fighting style, one that does not necessarily have to revolve around nature transformation.
Genjutsu[]
Given her incredible prowess with chakra control and manipulation, plus her Uchiha lineage, it follows that Reina would have a tremendous amount of potential in the shinobi arts branch that involves illusions: genjutsu. She is outstanding, drawing comparisons to the likes of the Uchiha clan’s famed Seto and Sakushi Uchiha. Although she would never admit to having a pacifistic side, genjutsu always appealed to Reina, as it presented her with a non-lethal alternative to subduing opponents when needed. During her time in the Academy, she studied the principles and applications of genjutsu quite thoroughly, taking a keen interest in the topic. Not that any of her instructors were surprised, as they already considered her a natural genjutsu type, having observed the signs of her innate skill with chakra control. Reina spent countless hours practicing the basics before ever even awakening her Sharingan for the first time; thus, by the time she was a Genin, she had excellent mastery over fundamental illusions, able to trap even more experienced and battle-tested opponents. She even had such excellent command over her genjutsu at a young age that her skill, combined with her chakra’s power and resiliency, allowed her to resist her opponents’ attempts to break out of her genjutsu.
As she grew more experienced with genjutsu and began to understand it and its principles better, her capacity to master more complex, powerful illusions expanded congruently. Reina thus has learned to use two of Konoha’s most notable genjutsu techniques: the Temple of Nirvana Technique and the Bringer-of-Darkness Technique. Her use of the Temple of Nirvana Technique is potent enough to put an entire crowd of people to sleep by herself, should she wish to, and it is challenging to wake a victim up from, given the strength of the genjutsu. Furthermore, assuming she is casting the genjutsu on an individual or a small group, she is skillful enough to layer other genjutsu on top of the Temple of Nirvana. This layering of illusions makes it harder to wake the victim(s) and simulates terrible dreams/nightmares to harass their senses. She is equally skilled at using the Bringer-of-Darkness Technique to submerge her opponent in the deepest darkness. Her usage goes beyond merely plunging a target into inescapable oblivion, however. The technique is comparable to being left at the bottom of a very, very dark hole. Reina takes this concept to the next level, using her skill at manipulating a victim’s senses to make sounds feel as if they are coming from very far away as if they were traveling down the depths of a well. Their sense of smell is overwhelmed by the stench of rotting corpses, and Reina is even able to subtly corrupt their chakra flow so that any chakra-based sensory fails them.
Upon awakening her Sharingan, Reina gained access to her clan’s notorious ocular illusions. Her Sharingan’s basic genjutsu is highly regarded, even among her clansmen, and considered quite potent. She can enmesh opponents in her genjutsu with minimal effort, often before they have a chance to realize they have fallen under her influence, allowing her to entrap them before they can resist. With her ocular genjutsu, she can extract or impart information, instantly render a target unconscious or paralyzed, breaking them free of any genjutsu they may be trapped in, and influencing their actions. Reina can construct various illusions with her Sharingan, but one, in particular, is considered her trademark. In this specific illusion, the target experiences the sensation of being waterboarded. On top of the Sharingan’s generic mirages, Reina can use the fabled eyes to shackle and torment her victims, reflect an enemy’s illusion right back at them, and even negate their genjutsu, breaking it down and layering her own on top of it to mentally harm them and confuse them.
As an elite practitioner of genjutsu, Reina is just as skilled at breaking out of illusions as she is at casting them. Possessing comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of genjutsu, their functions, and applications gives her a unique advantage in defending herself from illusions. It is child’s play for Reina to diagnose how an enemy’s genjutsu works and determine how best to counter it. Releasing herself from the clutches of genjutsu was something she was good at even before she awakened the Sharingan. After acquiring the Uchiha clan’s special genetic gift, it became nearly impossible to hold her in an illusion for more than a moment, as the Sharingan’s ability to see chakra flow allows her to quite quickly tell when she has been placed under genjutsu. Of course, the Sharingan also enables her to even more effectively deduce how an opponent’s genjutsu works. Given that her eyes are some of the most blessed in the Uchiha clan’s history, she also has a one-up on her brethren. Not only do her eyes see through the deceptions of others’ Sharingan with ease, but they are even more compelling in the projection of whatever fiction Reina imagines up. As her Sharingan naturally evolved in strength and gained more tomoe, even Sakushi Uchiha noted that apart from Seto Uchiha, Reina is the only individual capable of not only resisting his genjutsu but placing him under genjutsu instead, flipping the tables.
While Reina can use genjutsu in various ways, her usage of it is generally reasonably innocuous. She primarily uses it to communicate wordlessly with comrades, sharing information with eye contact alone. Incapacitating enemies without attracting attention, making noise, or resorting to killing them in situations where killing is inadvisable is another prevalent usage for her genjutsu skills. Given her own traumatic experiences with torture, Reina prefers not to use her illusions to wage all-out psychological warfare on someone unless she has to or unless she deems them deserving of such anguish. She is not, however, above using her abilities to interrogate enemies when it is necessary. Thanks to training with her brother Tatsuo and their brother figure Kian, Reina is also skilled not only at waging a battle with genjutsu alone, but also at overcoming and outmaneuvering the different ways genjutsu can be resisted or broken out of, making her a truly dangerous illusionist worthy of being held in as high of regard as the likes of Itachi, Shisui, Seto, and Sakushi.
Dōjutsu[]
Sharingan[]
Despite being considered ‘low-bred’ by her clansmen, as her parents were mediocre ninja who had not awakened the Sharingan, Reina was able to awaken it within herself. She has attained such mastery over the Uchiha clan’s birthright that she is renowned as “Reina of the Sharingan” (写輪眼の怜奈, Sharingan no Reina). On the way home from a simple escort mission, a group of unidentifiable ninja disguised in masks and cloaks ambushed Reina and her team. In the chaos, she got separated from her team and taken captive, and while being held prisoner, her captors subjected her to various types of torture. Her Uchiha blood responded as expected to the trauma, causing her Sharingan’s emergence for the first time. Reina’s captors were caught by surprise at the strength of her newfound eyes’ illusions, and she was able to incapacitate them long enough to escape. When it first showed itself, Reina’s Sharingan possessed two tomoe in the left eye and one in the right eye. Reina’s eyes progress in their natural evolution in response either to her slipping further into depression or under intense pressure in combat. Every Uchiha’s Sharingan eyes advance in stage at different rates; in Reina’s case, her eyes were quick to reach full maturation, as she had developed three tomoe in each eye within roughly ten months of initially awakening the Sharingan.
Ever since her first usage of the eyes, Reina has been able to activate and deactivate her Sharingan at will, like the rest of the Uchiha clan members who have awakened it. In her Sharingan, the “Eye of Hypnotism” (催眠眼, Saimingan) is exceptionally powerful. Other Uchiha clan members hold Reina in particularly high esteem for her mastery of the Sharingan’s hypnotic and illusory abilities. While the Sharingan’s basic genjutsu is elementary for any Uchiha with the dōjutsu to employ, Reina can escalate it from a simple illusion, basic hypnotism, to a hellish nightmare that is entirely under her control. Furthermore, she can also use it to paralyze a target, causing them to freeze up, or she can render them unconscious, depending on which she prefers. She can even go so far as to enter a target’s subconscious and impart information to them or extract it as the situation demands. With the Sharingan’s base genjutsu, Reina can also read an individual’s memories, alter them, erase them, construct new ones, share her memories with them. Freeing others from genjutsu is also within her capability. On top of being highly skilled with the construction of actual illusions via the Sharingan, Reina is among the best in the Uchiha clan’s history at the use of subtle hypnotism and manipulation. The power of suggestion is one of the greatest weapons in her arsenal and her favorite psychological tactic. In Reina’s opinion, it is almost as powerful as full-on genjutsu itself, but more subtle and harder for an enemy to see through. With the Sharingan’s visual acuity and predictive sight, Reina can perfectly mimic an opponent; this, combined with her knowledge of psychology and her sharp analytical skills, allows her to manipulate an enemy subtly into believing that she can directly see the future or read their minds. Without them picking up on it, she can discreetly suggest specific thoughts or actions, giving the impression that she knows what they will do or say before it happens. At any point, while a target is being subtly manipulated by the lowest possible strength of the Sharingan’s genjutsu, she can take advantage of their vulnerability and intensify her hold on them, entirely subjecting them to the dōjutsu’s influence. Like a real hypnotist, Reina can carefully guide her target through this hypnotic state, capturing their attention fully and making them more suggestive to her commands. She can use this ability for good, serving as something of a hypnotherapist to help break an individual of a habit, instill a new one in them, help them recover suppressed memories, work through trauma, or she can apply it in the manners discussed above.
As impressive as her hypnotic abilities with the Sharingan are, Reina’s perceptive abilities are just as remarkable. Her “Eye of Insight” (洞察眼, Dōsatsugan) is exceptionally resilient, notable for its ability to retain its clarity at higher speeds than the vast majority of Sharingan users. It is the key to maintaining such incredible maneuverability and reactivity while moving at a superhuman pace with the Body Flicker Technique. Like all Uchiha who bear the dōjutsu, her eyes can perceive fast-moving objects or people with ease, slowing them to a normal rate; upon full maturation of her Sharingan, this progresses into the ability to project an enemy’s next movement based on even the smallest amount of muscle tension. While engaged in combat, this level of perception also translates to the ability to see through an opponent’s hand seals, giving her insight into the type of technique the opponent is preparing to use. Reina’s eyes are so sharp in their visual clarity that she can see down to the cellular level, and like all Sharingan users, she can see the flow of chakra and separate multiple layers of chakra flow. Naturally, this means that she can use the Sharingan to effectively replicate any technique or movement within her physical ability to perform. Given that she is at her most effective when utilizing high-speed combat, it follows logically that her most important use for the “Eye of Insight” is leaning on its precognition to allow her to make full use of her Body Flicker Technique’s speed and agility. She can read and react to her opponent’s movements with ease, firing off counterattacks or initiating evasive maneuvers before they can even blink. The combination of Body Flicker and the Sharingan’s “Eye of Insight” makes for a deadly one, as there are few ninja in existence capable of pushing Reina’s reflexes to their maximum potential. Her speed, reaction time, and predictive abilities are overwhelming. Only Kian Uchiha, by Reina’s admission, has proven capable of keeping pace with her, as his ability to manipulate timestreams is perhaps the only genuinely effective counter for her.
Reina is adept at picking up on the most subtle, minimal expressions of body language with her visual acuity. Combining the Sharingan with her training in psychology courtesy of the ANBU, she can essentially function as a human lie detector, using her perception of body language to gauge whether or not someone is truthful, among other things. As her primary function within the Black Ops is to act as an investigator, scout, or spy, it is no surprise that the perception of her Sharingan’s “Eye of Insight” is especially useful in the field, allowing her to observe the tiniest traces of blood, dirt, chakra, and other substances. Seeing physical aberrations in an environment, such as freshly placed grass laid to cover traps, super fine wires, recently disturbed soil, etc., is easy for her, as well, which makes it very difficult to catch her in any trap or ambush her.
Mangekyō Sharingan[]
Being forced to make the split-second decision to kill her best friend stirred anger, grief, and sadness within Reina, causing her Sharingan’s evolution into the even more rare and powerful Mangekyō Sharingan. Ending the life of her closest friend and teammate shook her to her core, drenching her in regret and self-hatred so deep that it granted her access to the Mangekyō. Despite knowing that she made the correct, logical decision in the heat of the moment, she couldn’t help but blame herself, refusing to accept that her instinctive reaction to protect her other teammate from certain death was justified. As an Uchiha born to parents who were considered insignificant within the clan, Reina’s knowledge of the Mangekyō Sharingan and its drawbacks were limited only to the tall tales she’d heard as a child. The rightful heir of the Uchiha clan, Kian, was the one to explain the Mangekyō to her fully. Repulsed by the eye, she resolved never to use it unless circumstance demanded it, rejecting the Mangekyō and its power out of fear that it may irreversibly corrupt her on top of robbing her of her vision. Her clan’s Curse of Hatred was barely suppressed within her, which caused her eyes to deteriorate quite rapidly on the rare occasions that she did stoop to using the Mangekyō’s legendary might. As the Sharingan is referred to as the “eye that reflects the heart” (心を写す瞳, Kokoro o utsusu hitomi), some within the clan, including Reina herself, have theorized that the more a wielder of the Mangekyō is consumed by or struggles with controlling their hatred, the quicker their eyes lose their sight. Reina’s Mangekyō was a simple three-point swirl pattern. Mirroring her heart’s internal struggles, Reina’s Mangekyō accumulates more power in moments of intense depression, as opposed to hatred. Despite the trauma she’d endured throughout her life, Reina simply didn’t possess enough hatred to fuel the Mangekyō, proving that her earlier theory about the Mangekyō was incorrect. She would come to realize that any overwhelming emotion could cause the Sharingan’s evolution to gain strength and visual clarity.
The awakening of Reina’s Mangekyō Sharingan gave her access to a rather unique, powerful, versatile technique called Amenotokotachi. Amenotokotachi grants the user control over the force of gravity. Reina’s left eye can intensify or weaken the strength of gravity and exerts power over the radius of its field, expanding it or shrinking it at will. In practice, this means she can generate so much gravitational downforce within a field that it steadily crushes anything caught within its radius, makes movement nearly impossible, and can even cause cracks to form in the ground within the radius. Conversely, she can also generate gravitational upforce that suspends her opponents helplessly in midair, leaving them vulnerable to attack. Perhaps the biggest weakness of her left eye’s ability, however, is the inability to concentrate on more than two focal points of gravitational fields. She cannot create multiple interior gravitational fields, so to speak, to render both herself and any comrades caught in the radius of the gravitational field that she is manipulating immune to the effects of the altered gravitational forces. Reina’s capabilities only extend to creating one other field within a field. She usually has to create the extra gravitational field around herself, lest she is severely wounded or even killed by her ability. The only way for her to extend this protection to her comrades is for them to stand directly beside her while she remains stationary. If she moves and leaves them outside of the radius of her secondary gravitational field, they will be subject to the effects of altered gravity. Essentially, this means that Amenotokotachi’s more advanced, destructive downforce gravitational capabilities are not to be wielded in close proximity to allies. By manipulating the gravitational field directly around her person, Reina can, as implied before, make herself resistant to gravity. Her abilities do not stop there, however. She can create a gravitational aura around herself to exert attracting or repelling forces, providing her with protection from physical attacks; Reina can go so far as to project this aura far outward to create a powerful, resilient gravitational forcefield.
With her right eye, Reina can essentially shape and compress or decompress gravitational forces. By shaping gravitational forces, she can create powerful gravity beams that tear through anything in their path, varying sizes of powerful gravity domes and spheres, and of course, she can have the gravitational forces retain their shapeless form and act as a gravitational field. Her ability to compress or decompress gravity is the key to determining how much power is held within one of her gravity beams, domes, or spheres, even the gravity fields. Compressing the gravitational forces increases the amount of pressure that is exerted. She can compress a gravitational sphere, for example, around a target to the point where the sphere implodes, instantly killing whoever was unfortunate enough to get caught in its radius. Highly compressed gravity makes for exceptionally powerful gravity beams, as well. Reina can even use the right-eye ability of Amenotokotachi to form a massive black cube around her foe, trapping them and suspending them within the cube. At her discretion, she can further compress the gravitational forces within the cube to steadily apply more and more pressure to the opponent, to the point where it becomes unbearable and eventually kills the prisoner; she can do this slowly to facilitate interrogation, should genjutsu not prove sufficient, or she can simply rapidly increase the pressure and kill them very swiftly indeed. The greater the compression, the smaller the scale of the gravitational construct can be, as well. By compressing, for example, a small gravitational sphere to the fullest extent of her capabilities, Reina can generate just as much power behind said sphere as she can with a massively sized sphere. Amenotokotachi requires the use of both eyes’ separate abilities simultaneously; this is not to be confused with the idea of both eyes together having an ability apart from the individual abilities of the right and left eyes, respectively. Using both eyes simultaneously does not give Reina any further power or versatility, unlike most Mangekyō Sharingan techniques, likely because the right and left eyes’ individual abilities are sufficiently devastating on their own, and because the nature of Amenotokotachi’s full strength requires both eyes’ abilities to begin with.
Following the pattern of Uchiha who awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan in both eyes being granted access to the power of the legendary avatar Susanoo. The development of Reina’s Susanoo followed the same pattern as that of her other clansmen who have awakened it. At first, Reina was only capable of generating the skeletal portions of the phantasmal warrior; a ribcage, for example, or an arm. Eventually, Reina was able to manifest Susanoo's full skeleton, and was able to begin layering musculature and skin onto its skeletal form. She was not able to envelop her Susanoo in armor, however, until she acquired the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Like most Susanoo, Reina’s Susanoo has various different blades at its disposal at different points in its development, but like its conjurer, Reina’s Susanoo also favors shorter, lighter blades. Her Susanoo is made up of dark purple, nearly black chakra, matching the color of Reina’s gravitational fields and projections created by Amenotokotachi. In its full body, nearly complete form, achieved by the acquisition of the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, Reina's Susanoo begins to exert its own gravitation downforce, slowing down anyone in its radius and applying greater gravitational force to their bodies, physically exhausting them much quicker. Reina’s base Mangekyō's abilities were so powerful that they exerted more strain on her eyes than the typical Mangekyō's techniques, causing her eyes to deteriorate at an alarming rate. Having gone nearly blind, her brother offered to mercifully swap eyes with her and take the risk of them both going blind, should the procedure fail. It was a resounding success, however, and both Reina and Tatsuo awakened the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, their eyes’ new pattern identical and resembling a cross between their individual eyes’ patterns. Upon awakening the Eternal Mangekyō, Reina’s usage of Amenotokotachi and Susanoo became far, far less taxing and painful, though she would admit that she still experienced a good degree of exhaustion and agony upon using either ability repeatedly or for an extended period of time. Should she choose to push it, the use of Reina’s Eternal Mangekyō will drain her energy to the point of passing out.
Intelligence[]
Having graduated from the Academy at the top of her class, it is safe to say that Reina is extremely intelligent. She possesses a keen, sharp mind that is well-suited to analysis and logical reasoning, as well as an exceptional memory that allows her to learn much quicker than the average person. Reina processes very rapidly, which tends to serve her well when she is in situations where she has to make split-second decisions. For example, she is excellent at coming to a fast understanding about how her opponent’s technique works and devising a strategy for a counterattack. Bright though she is, what makes her ‘smart’ isn’t just her ability to accumulate book smarts and process information quickly, it is her ability to understand cause and effect, thus allowing her to consider the outcome of an action and adjust accordingly. Like her surrogate younger brother, Kian, this trait makes her well-suited to taking charge of a unit; she is an excellent leader. She is also very intelligent and deliberate in how she prepares for battles or missions, leaving no stone unturned, no detail to chance if she can help it. Reina is a great problem-solver, as well, able to come up with creative solutions that others may not have thought of in the moment.
A trait common amongst the Uchiha, Reina is very much a visual learner. She learns best from firsthand visual observation, when her eyes can process the information for themselves. From simply observing a technique, for example, she can get a good, usually accurate feel for how the technique is performed, its function, and its mechanisms; she has a true knack for being able to see the smallest details, even without her Sharingan active. Upon awakening the Sharingan, the incredible vision that it bestows upon the user became invaluable for Reina in the context of being a visual learner. With the Sharingan boosting the clarity of her vision and allowing her to see details that the naked human eye could never register, Reina can glean information very quickly through her sense of sight, indeed, which is helpful both off the battlefield and on it. Of course, her prowess as a visual learner also means that she does best when learning from books, demonstrations, graphs, charts, diagrams, etc. Any sort of visual aid is a great help for her, not being necessarily the best at learning kinesthetically or auditorily. It is unsurprising, then, that Reina has developed the habit of hastily sketching out her thoughts and observations, diagramming them, organizing them into a chart, and so on.
Reina’s intellect is prone to manifesting itself in the form of wisdom, as well. For her age, Reina possesses a great deal of emotional intelligence, able to empathize with other people and understand their emotions, as well as social situations, quite well. She is also quite insightful when it comes to life and its challenges, leading her to act as the main source of advice for her brother, Tatsuo, and her surrogate brother, Kian, as well as the few friends she has. Her judgment of people and what makes them tick is unusually accurate, and her advice is surprisingly sound for a woman as young as she is. Reina is also exceptionally book smart, having earned excellent grades in all of her academic courses at the Academy. She has a keen interest in physics and philosophy. In a classroom setting, she is able to excel with limited studying, and it was her classes that revealed how keen her memory is, both short-term and long-term. Despite not being the greatest auditory learner, she was still able to learn effectively from lectures alone during her Academy years, particularly since such lectures often incorporated the use of demonstrations or visual aids, appealing to her gift as a visual learner.

Creation and Conception[]
I’m not gonna lie, Reina’s gravity-based Mangekyō Sharingan technique, Amenotokotachi, was very heavily inspired by Zatch Bell!, particularly the character of Brago, whose spells revolve around the ability to manipulate gravity. Obviously, I took a lot of inspiration from Shisui Uchiha, as well, hence her fighting style revolving around the Body Flicker Technique. Reina’s honestly a character that I’m very proud of, as I love exploring darker themes in my writing and Reina is a great example of that. At first, I only intended to create her brother, Tatsuo, and keep him as an only child, but then I got inspired to create an Uchiha with gravity powers, one thing led to another, and...here she is. Reina is probably the character of mine that is closest to my actual personality, with her snarky demeanor, quick wit, short temper, and aloof exterior. Much like with the majority of characters that I’m creating these days, a lot of Reina’s development is, in large part, thanks to Arthur and his willingness to let me bounce ideas off him and give constructive feedback. So once again, I must thank him.
