Ryōta Uchiha (うちは涼太, Uchiha Ryōta) is one of the last survivors of the Uchiha clan after their massacre. He was formerly a member of the legendary Elite Three of the Uchiha clan and was revered as one of Konoha’s most elite jōnin, only rivaled by Kakashi Hatake and Might Guy. Later, he was assigned a genin team of his own, Team 6, and eventually swapped his eyes with those of his late friend, Shisui Uchiha, after the Konoha Crush. He was instrumental in passing down wisdom to Taiyō Hashimoto and his friend Naruto Uzumaki in their darkest hours.
He later go on several missions with his former genin students, and during the Fourth Shinobi World War, he was caught under the Infinite Tsukuyomi and then freed by Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha with their combined Yin-Yang Release. After Kakashi Hatake became Konoha’s Sixth Hokage, Ryōta was appointed his new Anbu Commander, but not before being given a portion of the new Ten-Tails’ chakra to help him master his new powers after the war. He would later help rebuild the Uchiha clan while taking towards a more positive direction.
Personality[]
Ryōta Uchiha has a stoic demeanor but expresses genuine affection towards his closest allies, friends, and even his own genin students. Much like Itachi and Shisui, he inherited the Will of Fire instead of the Uchiha clan’s Curse of Hatred, awakening his Sharingan during the Third Shinobi World War and remembering the pain and suffering war brings. While he respected and understood Itachi’s pacificism, he adopted a more pragmatic viewpoint to war, conflict, and strife. He always respects opponents and allies who are strong and those with great intelligence and wisdom, the best example being his interactions with the Hiruzen Sarutobi, Minato Namikaze (before and after the Yellow Flash became the Yondaime Hokage), and his rivals Kakashi Hatake and Might Guy. He openly despises and distrusts the Village Elder Danzō Shimura for his evil views on the world and hates him for his hatred for the Uchiha. He began hating him after Danzō sent his Root to assassinate him. Because of this, he grew disillusioned with the Uchiha clan despite still loving them as he would later mourn their subsequent deaths. In battle, he loves the thrill of a good fight, but has all his aggressive tendencies under complete control. He is also merciless against his enemies, possessing the same killing intent as a tailed beast. After taking down an army of Kumo and Iwa shinobi without a scratch without using his Sharingan, he earned him the moniker of Konoha’s Grim Reaper (木ノ葉の死神, Konoha no Shinigami).
He shares a deep brotherly bond between Itachi and Shisui, beginning when they saved each other during the Third Shinobi World War. This bond allowed him to experience enough emotional loss from his parents who participated in the war that he awakened his two-tomoe Sharingan before maturing quickly when Itachi and Shisui were in danger. After the war, Ryōta vowed to protect those he loved dear, only to be depressed after Shisui’s suicide, but entrusting both his eyes to his two friends via a crow. This traumatic event awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan along with Itachi Uchiha. Ryōta’s and Itachi’s worlds began to get darker and after figuring out the coup d'état of their clan, Itachi would carry it out and Ryōta would take care of Sasuke Uchiha after he was assigned a mission to the Land of Iron. During this mission, Danzō’s Root attempted to assassinate him but he used his Sharingan and Mangekyō abilities to successfully defeat them all before returning to Konoha, vowing revenge on Danzō and avenging his clan.
As a jōnin, he was respected by Konoha’s civilians while feared by every shinobi in other villages and abroad, and he took a liking to Taiyō Hashimoto and Naruto Uzumaki, deciding to help them in any way he could, while also helping Sasuke Uchiha maintain his humanity and helping Kakashi Hatake train the young Uchiha for the chunin exams. As Team 6’s squad leader, he was strict but fair and punished unjustified tardiness. Unlike most jōnin instructors, Ryōta presented himself as THE example for his students to strive for as Konoha shinobi: strong and powerful yet shrewd and pragmatic. He also had his team spar against other genin teams, including Teams Kakashi, Kurenai, Asuma, and Guy, respectively. This also further bonded the Uchiha with Konoha’s top elite jōnin and their students.
Ryōta possesses a pragmatic perspective of the world but holding the Will of Fire as his moral foundation and goal as a shinobi. He was able to deceive his enemy Danzō Shimura by keeping his student Taiyō Hashimoto’s kekkei shinka secret since Root would come after the boy for his power. He cares deeply for his students and will step in if an opponent is too powerful for them to handle.
Appearance[]
Ryōta Uchiha is a tall and well-built man with light tan skin instead of the usual fair complexion of most Uchiha, onyx eyes, and spiky raven black hair. As a genin, his attire comprises of a heavy black and white coat with the clan symbol on the back and a pair of black pants, boots, and fingerless gloves along with the standard blue colored Konoha headband around his head. In ANBU, he wore the standard outfit complete with armguards, a flak jacket, a black scabbard for his sword on his left hip, a sheathed tantō attached to his back, and a porcelain mask which was fashioned to resemble a wolf with a blue upside-down triangle on the forehead and blue markings under the eyes to accentuate the short but prominent muzzle. Under his ANBU outfit he donned a black short sleeved high-collared shirt underneath, similar to Itachi Uchiha, and his codename was “Wolf” (狼, Ōkami).
