Ryu Tokugawa is the current Heir of the Tokugawa Clan, a former Samurai Clan from the Land of Iron. Ryu is a graduating member of Konoha's Ninja Academy. A Kenjutsu Prodigy and Otsutsuki Reincarnation, Ryu shoulders the burden of his namesakes identity as Konoha's Ghost Warrior and the expectations that come with his name.
Appearance[]
Ryu Tokugawa is a young man of 13 years. Ryu is noticeably and uncharacteristically tall for his age hitting 2 inches over Six Feet. Like his Clan brethren he possesses bleach white hair with light blue eyes.
During his time at the Academy Ryu wore a hooded sleeveless top with the Tokugawa Clan Symbol on it's back, with black Shinobi pants and wore his Iron Dragon Bracelet on his left wrist.
Upon his graduation to Genin his look drastically changed. With Ryu choosing to wear and exposing top half in the form of the Tokugawa Clan shoulder guards, leaving his midsection exposed, while wearing the Kama and trousers made especially for the Tokugawa Clan Heir.
Following the defection of Sasuke Uchiha, Ryu transplanted the stolen Sharingan he took from Sasuke into his left eye, which his Tatsugan assimilated.
Following the Land of Waves Mission, Ryu received a replacement arm forged by his Grandfather, which he eventually removed to form a Dragon Arm
Personality[]
Ryu is unusually cold and ruthless for a Konoha Shinobi, especially one his age. He refuses to acknowledge someone whose skills or abilities force him or another to sacrifice their own Jutsu or abilities to protect them.
Ryu's lack of the Tokugawa Clan's Legendary Magnet Release Kekkei caused him to have a severely strained relationship with his Father and Younger Sister, indeed much of the Clan despised the fact a Non-Magnet Jutsu user was to become the next Clan Head, which caused significant Social problems for Ryu.
Ryu lives by a simple rule, carry your weight and be useful, or bugger off. This stems from the fact that despite his carefully honed abilities and feats, he remains unrecognized due to being born without the Clan's Natural Kekkei Genkai; Magnet Release.
Ryu as such carried a low opinion on Sakura Haruno as a Shinobi, or anybody who has similar priorities. Upon being rotated between several Teams, he began to soften his hard views, but retained his intense dislike for people who refused to be useful, helpful, and just not stupid.
It was not until he was beaten by Rock Lee that his views gradual change became far greater. Ryu's mindset shifted and he became notably more tolerant.
Nevertheless it must be pointed out that Ryu lacks a complete concept of Honor, as he has no qualms with using underhanded tactics such as using a human shield, using a Cursed Seal, or Stealing a person's eyes to gain or protect an advantage. It should be recognized however that in those three cases they were done in order to protect his teammates, Village, and family.
Until the Sound Four kidnapped him, and he was convinced to return by Tenten, Ryu showed a ready willingness to use the Cursed Seal of Earth, including the willingness to progress it to Stage 2.
By Part II, Ryu is noticeably more tolerant and kind, yet still maintains some of his ruthlessness and coldness.
One of Ryu's most notable shifts in personality post time-skip is his increasing desire to improve himself through the acquisition of Kekkei Genkai, having acquired through harsh training the Storm and Scorch Release Kekkei Genkai.
Abilities[]
Kekkei Genkai[]
Ryu possesses The Cyclone Release Kekkei Genkai, and has the genetic potential to awaken the Byakugan, Sharingan or Tatsugan. He would later transplant a Sharingan and later still a Byakugan into his left and right eye sockets respectively.
Cyclone Release[]
Born without his Clan's natural Magnet-Style, through a combination of luck, chance, and sheer force of will, Ryu created his own Kekkei Genkai. By combing his Natural Wind Release Abilities with his Lightning Release, he was able to create Cyclone Release, also known as Tempest-Style.
By Manipulating air currents and using Lightning Release in the eye of the growing storm, Ryu is able to launch supercharged Wind-based Jutsu, which if used in a certain manner can, when combined with a strong enough Fire Release Technique, become as devastating as a point-blank Amaterasu.
Sharingan[]
Ryu acquired the Sharingan when he tore Sasuke's left Sharingan from his Socket in order to prevent the loss of one of the Last known Users in Konoha. It was subsequently placed in his own eye Left Socket.
Because of the Eye's straight Tomoe he is noticeably more fluid and graceful in his movements, and has an expanded proficiency in Genjutsu.
Because Ryu has distant Uchiha Clan Ancestry, the Chakra Drain is not as demanding as it is for Kakashi, but he is still taxed by the Dojutsu. Furthermore, his Uchiha Ancestry causes his Sharingan to enter a sleep when not in use, being only partially visible. It was later theorized by Tsunade that this was due to fact that his Ocular Chakra Pathways were not completely developed as a true Uchiha would have been. He initially possessed the Eye of Insight, though this later changed to the Eye of Hypnotism under unknown circumstances, before going back to the Eye of insight, it continued to do the switch throughout Ryu's life.
Mangekyō Sharingan[]
When Itachi was killed, and Sasuke learned the truth, He awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, this subsequently allowed the eye within Ryu to awaken and it granted him the ability to use Amaterasu. When Sasuke transplanted Itachi's Mangekyō Sharingan into his remaining Eye, Ryu's changed as well, granting him Itachi's Tsukuyomi.
Chakra[]
While not as high as a Jinchuriki's, Ryu has immensely powerful and vast amounts of Chakra. His reserves have been noted to be high enough to be one of the few to be on par with a Tailed-Beast. It has been stated to be wild and untamable, later theorized to be born of his sleeping Kekkei Genkai after it awoke.
Background[]
Born ten years following the end of the Third Great Shinobi War, Ryu was hoped to become the great hope for the rejuvenation of the Tokugawa Clan following the scandal his elder sister Kuisha was involved in. However Ryu was later discovered not to possess the Clan's famed Magnet Release, and was as such forced to fight and claw for everything he had, more so when five years later his younger sister Hanami, who did inherit the Magnet Release was born.
Like many Clan-Born's Ryu even though he lacked the Clan Kekkei Genkai was raised in a privileged environment, receiving the best tutors, best instruction, and access to the Clan's immense wealth.
It was through the Tokugawa Clan's skill at forging armor and weapons that he would first met Tenten, his future beloved.
History[]
Part I[]
Academy-Land Of Waves Arc[]
Ryu graduated at the top of the Academies ranks, only being tied with Sasuke Uchiha, his rival. When Ryu, Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura were announced as Team 7, Ryu raised a fuss, feeling Sakura to be a burden and a deadweight.
His words caused the Hokage to put him on Rotation among the various Genin squads, to teach him humility and camaraderie, but The Hokage's decision only caused Ryu's Anger, something that intrigued Danzo Shimura, a senior member of Konoha's ANBU Black Ops and Council of Elders. Before he was permitted to undertake his missions as a rotation team member.
Bell Test[]
Ryu's performance in the Bellevue Test was ultimately passed only due to swallowing his pride and joining forces with his teammates.
First Rotation[]
As part of the Third Hokage's attempts to teach him Humility, Ryu was rotated to Team 8 for an unofficial recon mission. Ryu protested the elders decision that information such as terrain and geographic locale were non-important details.
Throughout the start Ryu butted heads with Kiba frequently, due in part to Kiba catcalling his Elder Sister in the academy, causing Ryu to violently last out in defense of his sister.
