Scattered Clouds Vanishing Mist (雲散霧消, Unsanmushō) is a contact-type genjutsu that uses the water-natured chakra, such as that from the Hiding in Mist Technique, as a medium. With this technique the user can selectively ensnare individuals withing the range of their mist in a variety of illusory effects according to their will. Additionally, the practitioner can choose to effect anyone within the range of their mist, with the exception of exempted targets. The effects of this technique can range from simple effects, such as auditory and visual hallucinations, to complex illusory applications, like temporarily manipulating weak willed individuals or forcing a target to reveal information.
In addition to the ability to effect several targets without direct contact this techniques mode of application offers many distinct benefits. The most notable is the ability to infuse genjutsu into the surrounding mist, which will then immediately effect anyone caught in its range, except for exempted individuals. As such, this set up also causes illusions to constantly reapply themselves to targets, even when successfully broken, while the target is trapped in the mist. This steadily increases the severity of the illusory effects the longer that the opponent spends in the effected mist, increasing the chances of inflicting severe mental damage to the target.
This technique can also be applied through natural sources of water, though the stamina cost is increased accordingly. In this manner skilled practitioners can even use the water within the victim's body as the medium for their illusions, which require direct contact, allowing for the generation of effects potent enough to crush the psyche of individuals boasting top tier mental fortitude.
