Slugs (蛞蝓, Namekuji) are a species of animals most associated with being used as a summon. Trademark users include Tsunade, one of Konohagakure's legendary Sannin, as well as her disciple, Sakura Haruno. They reside in the legendary Shikkotsu Forest.

Overview

Slugs' offensive abilities involves shooting acid from their mouths, similar to the way toads use oil. Slugs have also shown the ability to divide themselves into many smaller replicas, though this ability may be unique to Katsuyu due to her size. For defense, slugs can encapsulate themselves around an individual's entire body, making use of their resilient and durable body to protect against physical force.

Slugs, such as Katsuyu, have shown the ability to absorb chakra from its summoner and even control it to some extent through the use of an immense network-healing technique where the summoner channels their chakra into them in order to heal multiple people over a vast range without physically being there. Through this technique the summoner also shares a sensory link with the slug and can gather a basic understanding of a person's physical status amongst other things making slugs an excellent source for information gathering as well.

Senjutsu

Slugs have shown the ability to gather and control natural energy and enter the heightened state of Sage Mode, though few slugs have the capabilities to do so. The slugs have taught a few humans, lucky enough, to harness natural energy and enter what may be referred to as Slug Sage Mode. In this state, the user's eyes turn blue and the skin below the eyebrows, along with their hair, turn completely white. This gives them a great boost in their Ninjutsu, Taijutsu and Genjutsu prowess. In addition, they have the ability to mould their salive and spit it into acid, similar to how the slugs can do such. The user may also mould their chakra to cover them and temporarily transform into a slug-skin, thus protecting them from attacks to an extent. Their speed and strength are greatly boosted along with chakra manipulation, which is ironic considering that one must attain tremendous chakra control to enter this state. The only known shinobi to have learnt Sage Mode from the forest is Senkai.
