Tanigakure (谷隠れの里, Tanigakure no Sato, Literally meaning: Village Hidden in Valleys) is the hidden village of the Land of Rivers. Sitting at the heart of the Katabami Gold Mine, the village was built around the gold mine to help give the miners both a place to stay and an easy way to help keep the gold stored. The close proximity to the mine gave the village a strong economy, and it helped provide a driving force to give the Land of Rivers a reliable source of trade. Over the years, the Daimyo of the Land of Rivers changed hands constantly and there never was one set leader for a long period of time. That changed with Kisui Iyoku, who stayed as Daimyo for thirty five years. Keeping the village of Tanigakure prosperous and strong, Kisui helped give peace to the Land of Rivers. But that peace wouldn't last. When the Jashinist threat hit the Land of Rivers, the forces hit Tanigakure hard, killing off a large portion of its inhabitants. Kisui, wounded, used the last of his life to revive the villagers of the Land of Rivers at the cost of his life. With Kisui's death, his daughter assumes the mantle of the Daimyo of the Land of Rivers, watching over Tanigakure to protect it from the ever growing Jashinist threat.
