History[]
Founding[]
In the days prior to, during, and after the Third Shinobi World War, the Land of Mountains was left in a period of unrest. Shinobi clans, as they had done in the Shinobi Countries prior to the founding of Konohagakure, fought and warred for dominance over the others. The land's Daimyō hired the more powerful clans to exterminate the smaller ones, hoping to force the shinobi into submission, but even those clans fought against each other.
Sometime following the Third Shinobi World War, Shoji arrived on Land of Steam between what was the land before Yuragakure Cliffs and mountains, where his master's academy was left vacated. Over the years, Shoji gathered a significant following and gained the support of the daimyō — in the hopes of uniting the Land of Mountains under a single hidden village, as had been done in other nations. Shoji then declared war on the clans that refused to join him, aiming to beat them into submission or eradicate them entirely to prevent them from being a threat to the growing village and nation.
Shoji's victory, much of which was single-handed, is what earned him the vote of becoming the village's first Yurakage (山影, Mountain Shadow). While only a local title at first, it eventually gained world notice.
Golden Era/Rule[]
Under Shoji's rule, the village prospered, and more clans eventually joined. This time in the village's history is generally referred to as its Golden Era (黄金時代, Ōgon Jidai). The village eventually produced three additional Yurakage, two of which were direct descendants of Shoji. Shoji's Son, Kuro Ushio and his cousin, Mizu Ushio became the foundations of the village's Ushio Clan, The Golden Era of Yuragakure lasted upwards of twenty to thirty years following the Third Shinobi World War until the Tsuchigumo Clan Treaty Incident.
The First Two Wars[]
At some point, Shoji came to bind most of the tailed beast: The Zero-Tails and kept it for Yuragakure in First Shinobi World War, to promote peace and tranquility. However, this peace was short-lived. Shoji shortly after the war died of Chakra Disease, shortly after the village began to flourish, and the mantle of Yurakage was passed onto his son, Kuro Ushio, who became the Second Yurakage. Kuro would later be killed by Kinkaku during the same war but appointed his brother, Sai Ushio as Third Yurakage shortly before his death.
